I Need Curtains

I have a great referral in the Woodlands -- not sure where you are located. Kathryn Driskil and Missy Pask with "To Market, To Market" have helped me with so many things in my home including my famiy room curtains. They were very reasonable and the service and quality were great.

A....I have back ground in set design (for stage and film)...I have made many many sets of curtains. (Also, have a Masters Degree in Environmental Design). I would be willing to meet you somewhere to talk and see what it is you want. You buy the material and notions. We can work out a small fee for my time and I would be glad to help you. I live in north central San Antonio. Write me back and we can talk. Mondays and Fridays are best for me if you want meet or to shop together for fabric, measure windows, etc.

I sew. It may depend on the style you want, (hence the outrageous $$) Um, is there a way you can show me a sample picture of what you want and it depends on how far you're from me, maybe I can do them.

If you have an sewing experience, they're pretty easy. all it takes is a pattern from michaels, material, and a sewing machine. I would imagine it's a lot cheaper that way. You can get some great fabric on sale! GOOD LUCK!

i am in the same boat as you. I have been looking forever. One suggestion I have is Bed, Bath and Beyond. I don't know if you receive the 20% off coupon. If not, you can sign up for it at the store. Also, Anna's Linens has some, JC Penney is having a huge sale this week and I have seen some okay ones at Target. I know you have the extra long curtain thing but at least 3 of these places can help you order them. BBB is the best bet because of the discount and you can use it on special orders.

My neighbor made mine for me. I purchased the material (know a great place and very inexpensive when they are having a sale) and then became very unsure of how to accomplish what I wanted. My neighbor came over and measured for me, took my ideas and ran with it. Within 2 days she was calling me to look at them. She felt that what I wanted needed help with a few pleats. She showed me exactly what she meant and had examples in her home so it was very clear to me. We went with the pleats and I am THRILLED! They were relatively inexpensive and look great! She does this as a hobby and takes a lot of pride in her work. She hand stitches everything!

ok you need cheap but very pretty curtains... get thick sheets for a king size bed... they work great and can match anything and everything my sisterinlaw used shower curtains the thick cloth ones cuz they were the only ones that matched her sofas perfectly you may just need to hem them a bit but thats nothing compared to what im sure you got priced for... we used my nephews bed sheet to match his room theam (trans formers) it looks great and matches perfectly...

You really might just check out Ikea. Their stuff is definitely hit or miss, but I found some linen hemstitch curtains there a few years ago that worked for me. You might be equally lucky, and at the price - $30 for two extra long panels, you can't afford to not just check it out.

I have made a bunch of curtains using the Sunset curtain book from Lowes. It gives how to's on most styles and it's easier than you think.

Have you considered making your own? My sister in law is NOT a crafty person but she made panels for her windows and they look great! She put a hem on the bottom but had them a little longer then just right so that they slightly bunched on the floor to cover up imperfections. Then the top, I believe, clipped onto the rod but if you don't like that style you could just put an extra wide hem at the top for the rod to slide through. She has big wide windows and just made panels to boarder them, they don't actually cover the windows. But if you wanted them to cover, you could make several panels to provide good coverage.

IKEA has extra long curtains - 105"........they are really versatile and easy to hem if you need to. We have very high ceilings and I have their curtains in the kids play room that go from ceiling to floor....and I think I only paid about $40 for the panels and about $20 for the rods...

Hi, A.. My name is R. and we just moved to the Mt. Belvieu area. Our house has 10 ft ceilings and we could not find any curtains anywhere. So what we did was, got a magazine and found a look that we liked to get some ideas. We like the cornice look so my husband made a pattern that we liked on paper, went to the hardware store and got some plywood and 2x4s, and got his jigsaw and got creative. We had also went to Hancock fabrics to find some material we liked for the cornice. We used a plaid print. First, we glued the cotton in a roll on the wood, then stappled the fabric on. Then we hung it and decided that it needed curtains hanging too. So we bought a solid color, hemmed them, and hung them. It really wasn't that hard to do. If you have a husband like I do, (creative), then all you need is time. Our curtains turned out really nice and everyone who comes over asked who we got to do them. They can't believe that we did them. Good luck and I hope you give it a shot. It will really save you a lot of money in the long run. R.

Definitely make your own, or have a friend help you if you don't know how to sew. Watch for coupons from Hobby Lobby - they have an excellent selection of fabric in heavier weights, and with a 40% coupon you can get a great deal. Hancock Fabric is another good place to check out, they frequently have sales on holidays. All you have to do is hem the top, bottom and sides of the fabric and use ring clips on the top for hanging. Or you can create a pocket on the top for the rod to go through. It's real easy to learn if you have a sewing machine, and once you've done one, you'll be confident enough to do your entire house!

We can do curtains, specially if you just want panels with a valance or nothing too fancy. Were you getting your own fabric? and how many windows do you have and how wide. We would need all demensions so we could quote a price. I believe our prices are pretty comparable and our work is good. Also how far do you live from San Diego.
