I Need a New Veterinarian

I've been taking my dog to my vet in St. Helens (even though I haven't lived in St. Helens for about 4 yrs!!!), but now I live even farther in to Portland, have a dog and a brand new kitten. I really need to just bite the bullet and find a vet closer to home. Can anyone give me a good suggestion? I really would like one that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg! I live in SW Portland/Garden Home area, but am willing to drive a bit for the right veterinarian. Also, of course, my kitten is sick and so I need one sooner, rather than later ;-)

What can I do next?

Hi E.,
I recently switches vets and love the new one. Getting a second opinion from him literally saved my dogs life. The vet is Kent Smith at Crossroads Vet in Sherwood. I highly recommend him!

My friends and I use Banfield Pet Hospitals for our pet's care. They have been consistant and reasonable in price.

Hi there! We've been with Rose City Veterinary Clinic for almost 11 years for our dog and cat. The people there are always compassionate, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere is beautiful- they have a little courtyard you can access from the waiting room that has a fountain. There's also a great little play area for children that is always clean and is surrounded by a low little wall with a door- my girls never want to leave. Usually they have coffee and cookies, too.

There are 2 vets I think, we've been with Craig Quirk, and think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Something I like about him is that he doesn't push tests on you, in fact, he's really careful about offering vaccines and such that only make sense for the age, activity level, and outdoor exposure of your dog.

They're located just on the east side of the Ross Island Bridge (I live in West Slope). Here's the website: www.rosecityvet.com

There are a lot of good vets out there, good luck choosing!

We take our pets to Dr. Del Orchard at Cedar Hills Vet Clinic. It's right at the Hwy 27/217 interchange. They've been great! Dr. Orchard even made a house call when it was time to put my old doggie down, and he cried right along with us. What a sweet man!

I recomnend Vista Pet Hospital at 3200 SW 87th Avenue, Portlan, OR ###-###-####. They give great care to the animals in their care. My three cats have thrived with them for 6 years. I believe they are pretty close to you too. Just use Yahoo yellow Pages and look them up and then click on the map, finally plug in your address and get driving directions. H. Garland

We just moved from SW Portland and I still drive there for my pets because I love our vet so much. It's pretty close to the Garden Home area. Pacific Veterinary Hospital's address is 9715 SW Barbur Blvd. in Portland. It's just past where Capital Hwy and I-5 cross (across from the bus station). Their number is ###-###-####.

PVH is the kind of place that assigns your pet to what ever vet happens to have an opening that day. I've had a few vets that I didn't care for, however Paige Pierce is amazing and I always request to have her work with my pets. I only take my pets in when she is working. She treats my pets like they are her own and is very kind, gentle, and talks to my pets with respect. She always takes time to answer all of my questions, I never feel rushed. In addition, she has always returned my calls. She really is great!! The down side....her assistant I've had the last couple of times sucks!! I don't know if he is a vet in training or what, but he is really annoying. He does the initial check in and then Paige comes in after he is finished. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck and got him twice now, but it seems as if he is an intern working under her. Anyway, she is still worth the wait. Good luck!!
