I Mommy and Me Dresses/skirts for a 6Yr Old

My daughter has begun to get into dresses now. She is asking for us to have matching dresses. Does anyone know where I can find matching dresses. I don't want to spend $200 on a dress but would like to have pretty close to matching dresses or skirts. She really loves the long dress twirl :) Can anyone help me? She's wearing a 6x or possibly could do a 7 to last through the summer. She really loves sundresses so even a simple sundress will work. I'm not looking for super fancy. I've finally lost my prego weight from my second child and am looking for something cute.

What can I do next?

Hanna Andersson sometimes has matching outfits for girls and women. My friend works for Hanna Andersson, and back in the 90's, they were selling out of all of their matching outfits because Japanese moms were wanting to dress exactly the same as their daughters -- even down to the same hats or hair accessories. Their kid sizes can get quite large too, so if you are petite, you might even be able to fit into their big kid sizes.

Otherwise, you can try J.Crew/Crewcuts and Boden/Mini Boden. Good luck!

Hi J.-

I feel SO old! lol...I waited to reply to see if anyone else suggested 'dusting off' your sewing machine? Or maybe getting an inexpensive one and learning WITH your daughter? (and NO...6 is NOT too young!)

I dusted off mine when my eldest daughter was little...and the little girl outfits looked very...well...like cocktail outfits!

Anyway, that is one suggestion.

The other would be matching 'scarves'...they give the 'swirly' effect for her...and would be tasteful for you. Cheap to buy...cheaper to make!

We sewers are a dying breed...

**sigh**

Best Luck!

Have you heard of the Swedish clothes company Hanna Andersson? They have lots of cute matching and coordinating clothes for all sizes, and for boys and men, too. Very nice stuff, but it can get pricey.

This is the link for a local Honolulu shop, that has matching outfits for Mother and daughter. This is the link for their online shop. Here locally they also have brick and mortar shops.
It is very popular here with locals and with tourists.
The clothing is very cute.

Kelly's Kids also does matching apparel for the whole family. I've never seen it in stores but it's a catalog company that's supposed to be really high quality.

why not pick a color and get a dress for her in that color and one for you? Black dresses are easy and then you could have your husband take you both on a date and teach her how gentlemen treat women. He could bring flowers...I want to do this with my daughter. Go on a proper date. She loves dressing up!

I've seen a few of these lately on zulily.com. That's a great site for discounted women's/kids clothing and housewares. I just checked and the last offering must have sold out, but if you sign up to receive their daily email that will keep you in the loop. I've purchased some pretty cute things on that site!

As sweet as it sounds there is just no way I would want a matching dress with my six year old. We can dress in similar colors but definitely different styles. I'm a grown woman and my six year old is a child still. I just wouldn't do it because it doesn't leave room for growing up. What ever will you do when she is a teen.

Again I would do similar patterns but not identical styles. The 6 year old no matter how cute doesn't get to dictate what I wear.

I believe these are sold at JC Penney. At least I believe my grand daughter's were purchased from there a couple of years ago. My daughter will be selling some of them at the Just Between Friends of Arlington Sale in June. The event will be June 27th and 28th. check out the website. www.jbfsale.arlington.com for more information.

When I was about 5 years old my mother made matching dresses for us and I treasure the pictures of us in them. I don't know where you could find them already made these days but surely there is a place and maybe someone helped you as I didn't read all the replies.
Edit: The dresses we had were a print and big white collars which is that time looked okay on adult and child.

If you take a look at Old Navy, you can both get fairly simple dresses on the cheap. Several in fact.

I used to get a mess of catalogs that had them. Never saw them in the store except some mall specialty shops.

You should be able to google it and find a few sources.
