I Have Bilateral Inner Ear Infection

OK Moms, I'm just miserable, first I had a horrible sinus infection, took 3 rounds of antibiotics to subdue. Now I have a double inner ear infection so have started a 4th antibiotic. The doc said they rarely see this in adults. Said if I don't feel better with the antibiotics, I should call them back as it could be meningitis. But I am only taking Advil cold and sinus with the antibiotics. Plus I have some homeopathic ear drops that do nothing. I have to take at least 800 mg of motrin to feel any relief. Oh, and I'll be starting Flonase today. Hubs is out getting that right now

Aren't there ear drops for pain? I'm ready to pop my own ear drum.

What else do you recommend?

What can I do next?

I believe Aurodex was prescribed to me when I had a double ear infection. It is used to relieve pain and congestion. I haven't found any home remedies that help. Good luck.

I think there are some prescription ear drops you could get, but if all of that isn't working, maybe you should get back in to the dr. Meningitis is not something to be taken lightly.....

Just like kids... go find a good chiropractor and get your neck and sinuses adjusted. If your neck is all out of alignment your lymph nodes won't/can't drain properly (lymph system depends upon the muscles in the neck to squeeze the lymph... muscles in spasm can't do the job). Not all chiro's can adjust sinuses, but Activator and KST docs do.... Hope that helps, earaches are no fun for anyone.

I HATE to recommend this, but given the amount of pain youre in you may need like t3(tylenol w/codeine or 5/500 of vicodin of the pain. wow my ears hurt for you.

hang in there i want to tell you to wear ear muffs or something. but that just seems dumb. i have been dealing with the cold so far so good. ice. can you put an ice pack on both sides? or heat one ice other. or heat both. those are my mom approved homeopathic rems for you.
update:i agree about the menigtis. That is like possibly life or death in some cases.

-Libby, hang in there!

ps. be takening probiotics or eating yogurt . thats alot of antibiotics.

Oh I feel terrible for you and your poor ears. I had an ear infection this last december and was given pain meds. Are you seeing a specialist? I would hope that the dr you are seeing has recommended that. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Use some sort of warm pack on your ears to help with the pain. When sleeping keep your head elevated. If you lay flat it make it hurt worse. It really sounds like you should try to get in to see an ENT as they will have some better solutions for you. Good Luck ear hurt.

when i had a really nasty ear infection they packed my ears full of this burndt orange colored antibiotic powder. it had to stay in for a week (maybe two?) then i had to have it vac'd out. it was the only thing that worked. i had to take vicodin during that time. I had to go down to sacramento to UC Davis's main hospital and see their specialist as the regular ENT in Auburn was a a$$ and said I had no problem! ha! sounds like you need to see a different doctor. if my doc said call me back it might be meningitis i'd say sayonara and get another doctor! meningitis is nothing to mess with. go see an ENT. good luck!
