AZO is a good idea, but don't forget about cranberry juice or even cranberry tablets--may be a good preventative for you. Something in cranberry makes the lining of the bladder inhospitable to bacteria... Also, drink TONS of liquids to continuously flush the bladder so that the bacteria can't hold on!

Hi Ci A
You need to drink lots of Cranberry Juice or get capsules in the Health food store, as well as blueberries.
You most likely have taken antibiotics the last time, which the Dr. will prescripe to you again. They certainly help but they as well deplete you of the good bacteria that exist in your body. This upset in the balance of healthy bacteria may interfere with the proper digestion and absorption of nutrients. Lot's of plain yogurt or probiotics are essential.
There ar steps you can take for future prevention:
*Drink plenty of water
*Urinate when you feel the urge
*Wipe from the front to the back
*Cleanse the genital area daily and before intercourse
*Urinate after sexual intercourse
Hope this helps and will keep you from further infections.

Hi C..
I know exactly how uncomfortable UTIs are. I can wipe with the wrong scented toilet tissue and I get one, uaually about 4-6 times a year.
Since you state AGAIN, I'm assuming you got it recently or else it is an ongoing thing. I can't give you any advise as to help you NOW, but you can do this.
Ask your doctor to give you an advanced prescription for Pyridium (phenazopyridine). He can give you extras to keep on hand to when this happens, you can take them immediately and not have to hurt till you get to him.
Good Luck!

There is already a lot of good info here so the only thing I will add is if you get UTI's with your period. It can help as a preventative to take out the tampon when you pee to empty your bladder completely (though it might not be so practical if you have to go every 5 minutes!).

at this point you probably need an antibiotic. for the future... i used to get them alllll the time, awful. the best thing i did was - as soon as i felt the very first "uh oh", i would start doing shots of cranberry concentrate, you can mix with a little water if you need to, the stuff is vile. do as much as your stomach can handle, but go slow if you never did it before, it can be rough on your stomach. dilute it as little as you can so you can tolerate it. regular cranberry juice has tons of sugar, it defeats the purpose. i almost never get them anymore, i started to go pee after having sex, always, every time. it worked completely. feel better quick :)

yes it is called AZO but I live in Texas so it may be another brand. I bought it OTC at a drug store.m turns your pee orange while your taking it. It helps the pain and urgency.

I think you probably have your appointment today, but for next time, get Uristat. I'm not sure if that is the AZO that the other two replies were talking about. Uristat also makes your pee orange and it starts working straight away. It's by the makers of Monistat. I bought boatloads of it since I used to get them every month. It doesn't cure it but one doctor actually told me that it skews the urine test results when they try to figure out exactly which bacteria is causing it. The test will still show you have a UTI but they won't be able to determine which bacteria caused it. Didn't matter to me, I'd rather feel some relief! Hope your feeling better soon!

Dear C., I know I'm reading this late, have been in the hospital for hernia surgery but I have had so many UTI's. There is a product over the counter that makes you pee bright orange and it takes away the pain. Ask the guy at the drug stre. I hope you find out why you get them so you can prevent them in the future. Grandma Mary
