I Had Just ONE Task and Failed...

Just venting, really. I am feeling like a real dummy. I had just one appointment on my calendar today, an orthodontist appt for my kid. I received two reminder calls yesterday, I have looked at the calendar multiple times this week, and this morning, the first thing I did was write out my schedule to make sure that I was able to get all my tasks done, check my kid out from school and get to the appointment on time. In fact, I was mentally praising myself all morning for making such good time. So we get there, and the staff is leaving for lunch and I missed the appointment. I get home and look at my calender and it wasn't even a case of misreading my handwriting or anything. I just mentally decided that my appointment was at 1 pm when in fact it is clearly written as 11:30 am on the calender. (pats self in back)
Anyone else out there that had just ONE task and they failed?! Hope you all are having a better day than I am!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

These are great! Keep em coming. Things like this tend to happen when I am taking on too much, guess it is time to scale back on the commitments!

My mom had just one task when I was pregnant.
Pick me up when I called that I was in labor. (I was a single mom)
So, I called my mom, "Hey, I'm in labor" and I sit and wait.
And wait.
And wait.
And wait.
My mother finally showed up about 2 hours later. She has a big gash on her head. I say, "what took you so long?!" She says, "Well, you called and I drove all the way to the hospital and went to unlock your door and noticed that I forgot to pick you up! So, I opened the trunk to put my stuff back in to rush back and get you and then I wacked myself on the trunk. Had to get stitches! I am so sorry!"
Off we go to the hospital.
It was a false alarm. My poor mom.

Give yourself some credit. You and your kid got up and dressed for the day. Probably ate. You got your kid to school. Picked them up. If you're planning on feeding them dinner and getting them to bed at a decent time, you should definitely pat yourself on the back. It sounds to me like a well- done day. Just laugh about the little stuff. And have fun.

I started myself on a good- mom points system. I give myself extra points if I go beyond the bare-butt essentials of my days. No one else knows about them and I guess technically there's no reward, but telling myself I get an extra good-mom point really makes me feel good. Dumb but really, isn't it all about the little stuff?

Just one failure? LOL!

One year I forgot to pick up my son from school on early release. The school didn't even call. He walked over to the playground and had a grand ole time alone for an hour and half. Maybe he was 10. I FELT LIKE A HORRIBLE MOTHER!

This has happened to me several times in my life. Be gentle with yourself. In the grand scheme of things it really is no big deal. Took me years to realize that sometimes there is a glitch in my brain. I don't know why. Though, I think it happens most when I've been swamped for awhile, working hard to keep up and then I have a calm day and feel that I can relax a bit and my mind relaxes a whole bunch. LOL

This kind of stuff happens.
The world won't end over it, so don't be too h*** o* yourself.

My son and I had a medical appointment that was really important. It was scheduled for super early in the morning and a 45 minute drive from here.
I woke up, saw the clock, freaked out and rushed into my son's room.
"Hurry....you have to get up! We're going to be late for the appointment! Please! Get up and get ready NOW!!!"

He just looked at me like I was completely crazy and said, "Mom, go back to bed.....it's Sunday".

Whoopsie.

Don't let it ruin your day. You wrote out your schedule so you obviously had more than one thing to do.

Cut yourself some slack.

Just my opinion.

I was once directing the children's play at church, which my SD was in that year. I even PICKED HER UP and then completely zoned on the fact that I should have been at the rehearsal. It was the last year I did it. I was mortified.

It won't be the end of the world. I bet your son was pleased as punch about the whole thing! He got to check out early, and didn't get anything tightened/adjusted. AND he gets to have another early check-out day to make up for this one... Win-win as far as he is concerned. :)

I spent most of the day putting off going to the gym (my one task I assigned myself today as an absolute MUST do)... then when I finally did go, I didn't leave myself enough time to do my full routine. Oh well... at least I got the free weights part done. I can go running tomorrow outside--that is where I prefer to do it anyway (instead of on a treadmill).

If that's your biggest screw up---you're doing good! :)

@ Geneva-- when I was late for one of my daughter's morning piano lessons, I DID get pulled over! Luckily, he glanced at my sweet child in the backseat who was spending her Saturday morning going to a piano lesson, and decided to just warn me to slow down. :)

Been there..done that! You are not alone. I have shown up to appointments late...once on the wrong day. It happens....

Don't be too h*** o* yourself. Today may have been an easy day on the scheduling calendar..but overall our minds are so full of info/appts/random thoughts and so sometimes we get a little muddled.

Go to bed early...get a good night's sleep...tomorrow is a fresh start!!

Mine beats yours. I was pregnant with my second son, we drove to the airport to go to Chicago to visit family, started to check-in, and they told us we had missed our flight. I had it written down as 1pm, totally mentally ingrained it was 1pm and in fact it was earlier and they were already boarded and ready to leave. We had to pay over $200 to change our flight and get on later. I had my mom, husband, and my son with us at the time. I felt awful for the money we had to spend, the time wasted, and my dumb time mix-up. I got over it, and you will too. We all have our things, don't be too h*** o* yourself.

Oh, dear, sweetheart, I have the same calendar/clock deficit. It's gotten so bad that I have to quadruple-check my calendar every morning, and then several more times during the day. Even then, I goof sometimes.

It kind of comforts me that I'm not alone.

I hope your tomorrow is better!

My daughter has piano lessons every Tuesday morning, and has had for every Tuesday morning for the last 6 months. So why on earth did I forget about the lesson yesterday morning until 30 minutes before we had to be in the car? We did get there, but it involved a lot of scrambling and me throwing breakfast over my shoulder into the backseat for the kids as we peeled out of the driveway at warp speed. I'm just lucky that we got there without a ticket and with everybody more or less dressed, fed, and combed.

Well this post just reminded me that my daughter had ballet class yesterday. She loves her class...lives for it. And I completely and totally forgot!
