I Am Moving and Need Help
My husband just got transferred to the Toledo Area. Looking for a move during Christmas break. I am to say the least freaking out. We will be coming to the area next weekend to look for houses. A friend of a friend told me to look in Perrysburg because it is someone what close to what I have been living in with my children.
Can someone please advise me on the places to live. I was going to look in Perrysburg, Sylvania and Maumee. I am looking for a house that is not older than 10 years. I have a very spacious house to me here in Ill., 3000 sq. feet of upstairs living.
I want a friendly neighborhood with children. I have a 6 and 7 year old. Good schools and a source for great activities. This is the first time I will be moving with my children and I am very stressed to make the right choice for them and myself.
If anyone can send me their thoughts about the area to make my transition as smooth as possible I would greatly appreciate it.

I live in Waterville and it's great. Grew up here too. I went to Anthony Wayne and will have no problem sending my soon to be child there as well! There are a lot of houses here for sale too and I'm sure you could get a deal!! Good luck!

Hi K.,
I can understand your anxieties about moving. Welcome to NW Ohio!!
Perrysburg, Sylvania, & Maumee are all nice locations. I live in Perrysburg, which is a very nice, growing community, in Wood county! The schools are about the best in the area. There are also many nice newer homes in Perrysburg. Easy access in any direction. I-75 (the North South) expressway runs through Perrysburg, as well as I-80 the turnpike.
Maumee & Sylvania are nice areas & have newer homes also. They both border Toledo, & are in Lucas County as is Toledo.
I hope I was able to help a little. You'll need to visit & see for yourself what suites your style, & what's available!
Feel free to write with any other questions. Good luck in your search, and move.
K. :-)

Hi K.. My husband and I are originally from the Cleveland area and had to move to the Toledo area 5 years ago for his job. I was very reluctant as well because I didn't know the area. We found a wonderful home in Sylvania and really came to LOVE the area. It is very family friendly, and there are great schools. I worked in Perrysburg and it is also very nice with alot of younger families. Those would definitely be the two areas I would most recommend. We moved back to the Cleveland area almost one year ago, and I never thought I'd say this, but there is alot about the Toledo/Sylvania area that I really miss. I know the transition can be tough, but I think you'll like it there. If you want to e-mail me personally about recommendations for pediatricians, ob's, stuff like that, my e-mail is ____@____.com luck to you and your family.

You will never believe this but I am a SAHM of two (1 y/o and a 3y/o) and we are moving at the end of the month to Perrysburg from Indiana. We actually moved away 3 years ago with my husband's company and are now returning. So first of all don't freak out!! It won't be as bad as you think. I could give you tons of advise with as much as we have moved.
The 3 areas you are looking at are great. I can tell you that the best school systems in the area are #1 Ottawa Hills and #2 Perrysburg, which is why we also wanted Pburg. The realtor we used has an excellent website with all the school info on it www.toledoliving.com ~ Nancy is our realtor, but regardless if you use them their website is extrememly helpful. There are also plenty of private schools as well.
If you are looking for spacious I know "The Quarry" in Maumee has some great houses available with probably the space you are looking for as well. I have a friend that lives there and she said there are a few houses that have been on the market awhile. The area has several children and seems to be a friendly area but she is the only one I know.
Either of the three areas would be great. I know that Pburg has always been in high demand b/c of the schools and I know you can get a good deal on houses right now with the economy. Most offers are coming in 20% below asking price.
If you have ANY other questions about the area or relocating, please let me know. This is our 3rd move in 3 years...so I feel like a bit of an expert. You can email me at my personal email of ____@____.com for any more advice. you will have to get a hold of me once you come to town so I can show you around and/or introduce you to others in the area.
I could probably go on for a while, but will stop with this. Please feel free to contact me if I can help any other way. Referring good hotels, stuff to do, realtors.....
Good luck

I would agree with what the other said. I would recommend staying out of Toledo Public Schools. I live in Toledo now but plan on living in Maumee, P-burg, or Sylvania by the time my son starts school. I would say that P-burg and Sylvania are a little nicer than Maumee. And yes, the Anthony Wayne School District is great, too. There are some very nice home in Whitehouse, Waterville, and Maumee that are in Anthony Wayne District.
Good luck.

Adding to Jamie's advice, I also live in Oregon and love it here, there are a wide range of houses on the market and space to build as well. Maumee Bay State Park on Lake Erie is a wonderful place to enjoy, I love having it close by. Check into Graham village in Oregon it is a new development and my husbands boss who is wonderful is the developer and lives there as well. Goodluck and don't worry!

I live in Sylvania and can help you with your decisions. I have lived in the Toledo area most of my life. I work downtown Toledo for a major healthcare system. I have a friend who is a real estate agent who can help you too. Sylvania and Perrysburg are comparable. It depends what you are looking for and perhaps where your husband works - and perhaps what kind of sports/activities your kids are involved with. I used to work in Perrysburg so I am very familiar with that area as well. I also have friends who live in Perrysburg. The other school district that is growing very rapidly and is good is Anthony Wayne School District, although that is much more rural. Feel free to email me at ____@____.com.

Perrysburg, Sylvania and Maumee are all suburbs of Toledo and are all great places. I live in Oregon which is also a suburb that sits right on Lake Erie. We absolutely love it here. It is a community that is small enough to give you the "small town experience," yet big enough so not everyone knows every detail about your life. We have 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and one high school. You can find homes here that are as small as 800 sq ft and cost only 80,000, as well as ones all the way up to 4000 sq ft that cost 1,000,000! There is a very wide range of people who live here. I would suggest that you talk with a real estate agent and let thenm know where you are moving from and what you are looking for. If you would like any more info or to know anything specific about my area, just send me a message. Good Luck in your move!
