I also live in Carrollton, but I do volunteer work in Flower Mound for the Humane Society of Flower Mound. They are a wonderful all volunteer non-profit animal rescue group. www.fmhs.org for more details. The reason I chose them over groups closer to home was because I found them to be more organized, yet more in need of help. They have many different types of volunteer opportunities other than just taking care of animals such as fundraising, laundry, office help, etc.

Call the Volunteer Center of North Texas and tell them you're looking for something in your area.
Or, go to http://www.guidestar.org and check out all the nonprofit organizations. Not sure if you can search by city but try it. Another one is the Foundation Center web site.

I looooooove Meals on Wheels - I am actually going to start doing it again and taking my 2.5 yr old twins with me. I figure it'll be a good thing for the kids to start seeing at an early age and the people we'll be delivering meals to will love to see the little ones. I just Googles "Meals on Wheels" to get the link. Also, I know the pet shelters are always looking for help and you could probably find one close to you. Good luck!
