I Am Always Cold!! - Langhorne,PA

I am ALWAYS so very cold. Spring, Fall and Winter, summer is the only season I am comfortable (because it is so humid here). My house is very old so the temperature inside is pretty cold and I never know if it's just me or if it is really 'that' chilly in the house. I feel guilty putting on a hoodie to wear around the house unless I have the kids bundled up too (they are 4 and 23 months). I feel bad if I don't have them all layered up too. Like, if I am cold, then they are probably cold too. At least I can ask the older one if he is chilly or not. I also have Reynauds syndrome so I haven't figured out what to do to keep my hands warm. They are like icicles. At night when I get all comfy to relax before heading off to bed I wear a tank top, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt and a hoodie sweatshirt (and I can still say I am chilly). The hoodie is the only thing I take off for bed. I would love to hear from other 'chilly' moms and 'warm' moms too.JUst want to see if it's 'just me'. And if you have any advice, I welcome it!

What can I do next?

I am always cold and my hubby and son are always hot. I walk around with pants, shirt, and sweatshirt on all day plus I always have a blanket over my lap whenever I am sitting down. Hubby comes home from work and immediately puts on shorts and t-shirt. Kiddo (who is 2) gets cranky if I have him all bundled up. He prefers running around in just a diaper. Lol

I was this way for years.
I always wore a sweater - even in the summer.
My finger nails would be blue with cold most of the time.
And then I was diagnosed hypothyroid (19 years ago).
With my thyroid levels balanced out with medication - I feel just right warm again.
Have your thyroid levels checked.

Ah, well the you'll enjoy the perimenopausal years! For example the MOST comfortable place for me to sleep in December would be outside in a snow bank!

I am pretty sure my head is going to burst into flames at any moment!

You are quite possibly hypothyroid. I was cold all the time too, before I was diagnosed, and hypothyroidism is quite common.

I don't know what the association is between Reynauds and hypothyroidism is, so Reynaud's alone might be enough to make you cold, but it might be worth having your thyroid levels checked anyway.

I have Raynaud's too and I live in down vests when it's cold! It's almost like it cancels the effects of the Raynaud's- keeping ur core warm so the blood isn't drawn from ur limbs. It's the only way I've found to keep warm. No matter how many layers I wear, it's not as good as a down vest!

Are you iron deficient? That could be another possibility. Try eating more meat, or the highest iron food that I know of is Cream of Wheat. I know people think raisins are high in iron and they have some, but nothing compared to the levels in Cream of Wheat. I'm not a fan of the stuff but I choke it down with some cinnamon and sugar just for the iron.

Wow, this post makes me feel warm-and-fuzzy! I, too, am a "cold hands, warm heart" mamma. I save a lot of money on summer clothes since I'm always in a jacket due to the air conditioning.

I've learned just to carry an extra coat wherever I go, and having married a "hot" hubby I layer up around the house.

Agree, totally with others about the thyroid. I've been told to have mine checked too but complaining is easier :-)

"Warm" regards!

I have Reynauds as well and I too am always cold. Wondered if it would change if I gained weight but after many years and a lot of weight gain I am still cold. I suspect it has something to do with the reynauds. I keep my house warmer when possible even in the summer, less A/C. In winter I run the heat more. So I just figure I need more warmth than others. To keep my hands warm I often carry a cup of warm tea or even just hot water with me.

I am freezing all the time, too, and often wear a sweater in the summer, even when it's 100 degrees (I live in Texas). My family is not like me. The are all "normal." I am anemic, so I'm sure that's part of it. I'm also very small. My mother constantly tells me to "Eat, eat, eat! Put some meat on your bones and you won't freeze anymore!" I would rather just wear layers. :)

Really, though, the only time I'm comfortable is in a hot bath.

My DD runs warm like her dad so I ask him if he's comfortable before putting another layer on her. I'm always chilly in winter. This winter has been worse than average. I haven't lost weight or done anything unusual. The house is better insulated than ever. But I'm sitting her considering getting a throw. It does often help to wear socks. And I have a twin sized crochet blanket (heavy) on my side of the bed only.

I guess you and I may need our thyroids checked.

I am always cold too. When people come to our house they ALWAYS complain that it is hot when it feels fine to me. I set my thermostat to almost 80 in the winter at night and my poor kids end up sweaty in their sleep and they don't even wear jammies. Your kids might not be as chilly as you think. :))

My mom has Raunauds as well and I got her some essential oils for her hands and feet. She said she couldn't believe it but they actually work. I got them from heritage essential oils (google them to find their site). You can also bathe in the oils (just add a few drops to a tub of water) but she rubs the oils on her hands and feet and she was surprised at the affects. give it a shot!
