I Am a Mom New to the SE Portland Area.
Hi, I'm new to South East Portland. (Near Foster and 92nd) Looking for ideas on how to settle in and feel at home. I would appreciate info on good parks and things to do around here. I have 5 children, three that are home with me during the day. I would love to find some local mom friends around here to visit with, go on walks, play at the park etc. I'm busy with unpacking and figuring out where to put things and stuff. Wishing I had some girlfriends to help me out!

Hi there.. I am not sure if you are much of a blogger but I have a blog about things to do in NW Portland.. however it was supposed to be that and then turned into more of a crafty thing. But I live in the beaverton/cedar hills area and know lots of fun places to go! Check out the blog.. go to older blogs to see some of the places we've been.. there will be more to come as time goes on.. just haven't had the money to any where fun yet.. there is TONS of parks.. the washington park is a really good one.. that is by the zoo.

There's a great church in SE Portland that I used to attend called Hinson Church...it is on the corner of SE 20th and Salmon. It has a mom's playgroup, and a MOPS program and women's Bible Study...etc. You can check out their website at: www.hinsonchurch.com. Welcome to the area!

Mt. Scott Community Center is a good resource for getting together with other mom's that have little ones. They do a morning playgroup thing that is cheap. I believe it is called Indoor Park in their book.

Hi, Welcome to SE.
We really like Raymond Park that is located about 122nd and Raymond - it is between Holgate and Harold. It has swings, a jungle gym, rocker toys (what teeter totters are now) and a great summer water place to play - lots of "springs" - it isn't really a fountain. It also has a mini bb court, a paved path around it, I think a bbq stand and lots of grass and some trees (good for shade - but not woodsy and full of "trail mix"). We also live close to the Powell Butte which is fun for hiking that isn't too strenuous. The Midland library has some good staff that do Story time - but then most of the story time staff around our area are good. You may be somewhat close to a part of the Spring Water Bike trail - it is good for walks and bike rides.
I have heard good things about the park that is located about Holgate and 92nd, but have never been there.
Good luck unpacking - we have been here almost a year and still have boxes in the garage -enough to not be able to park in it :( but still - lol about it

Welcome! I'm not sure which area of SE Portland you are in, but I highly recommend the sunnyside swap shop - it's a co-op play space in the Hawthorne area. Its website is www.sunnysideswapshop.org. It's really cheap ($25/month) and has a big play area with toys for all different age groups. There are also Saturday night get togethers with free performers and other events.
OMSI is another great place to go to, if you are close-in. There are great play spaces for all different ages and I know there are mother's groups that meet there.
Good luck finding a place to connect!
