Hysterectomy or Novasure (Endometrial Ablation)???

A little about me. I have has Endometriosis all my life and have had surgery 12 times. I now have two girls (4 & 22 mon.) and my tubes are tied at 36 years old. My Endometriosis is back once again and I have been given the options of a Hysterectomy or Endometrial ablation. A Hysterectomy would take care of everything so that I would not have problems anymore. The down side is I am out 6 weeks and 4 of those weeks I will not be able to pick up my kids, which as you know is very hard not to do. The ablation is non evasive and I would be up and able to do everything that day. The downside is that I would have a chance to get my Endometriosis back within 6 months. I am not worried about the surgery at ALL. I just hate that I cant pick up my own children. They say it is a lot like a c-section which I had with both children but I was picking them both up after a week. I dont know I am torn. Does anyone have any thoughts? thanks!

Hi,
Let me preface by saying I am not a health professional or have any first had experience with bad endometriosis.
But, I do eat a mostly vegetarian diet after I read Dr McDougall's book. I saw recently on his website the following article. I hope it will help you.

I would opt for the Novasure first--while your kids are still so young. You may end up getting moe than six months relief. When (snd if) the symptoms come back, your kids will be a little older (and you won't have to pick them up as much), then you can get the hysterectomy.

Have you had an endometrial ablation before? The reason I ask is a friend of mine had an ablation, and was told she would not be able to get pregnant at all. Well, she went to a shotty doctor, who forgot to tell her that she SHOULD not get pregnant, not that she COULD not get pregnant. Well, here we are 4 years later, and she is 8 months pregnant, and has thankfully had no problems. She is now going to my doctor, who informed her that he does not perform and endometrial ablation without performing a tubal ligation. The reason for this, is if you get pregnant after the ablation, it is very high risk of the placenta detaching from the uterine wall and miscarrying, at any point in the pregnancy. I would think long and hard before making any decisions at all. Also, there is a third option to help with the endometriosis which is not permanent. I myself have had 8 abdominal surgerys, so I understand your dilema. I used Lupron twice to buy me time before having to make a permanent decision. Lupron is a shot that puts you into menopause. It lasts for 6 months. It worked wonders for me, plus no cycles during that time! If you would like a second opinion, please consult my OB/GYN. His name is Dr. Darrell Jordan. He is out of Medical City in Dallas. I have been seeing him for 11 years now, so I can tell you he is absolutely wonderful, and he does not believe in performing radical procedures unless it is last resort. Hi, There is a nutritional supplement that has helped many women avoid the issues, if you are open to it I can share more details.

Happy New Year!

I had the ablation 7 years ago and it was the best thing ever! My alternative was a partial hyst. - I had just had my last child 5 months prior. I opted for the less invasive and have never had any problems.
Good luck in whichever you do!

I too, suffered through the exact same situation. I opted for the hysterectomy, though it was done laparoscopically. I don't know if this is an option for you. I had mine on a Wednesday, was out dancing on Saturday, and back at work on Monday...less than a week later. No pain, no nothing unless I got up from a seated position really fast. Maybe you should ask your doctor if this is an option for you. Granted, I couldn't pick up anything heavy for six weeks, but you can still HOLD your kids - you just have to sit down first!!
