I was hypothyroid before I was pregnant and I was on synthroid.
The only thing the fertility specialist recommended with regard to it was to slightly increase my dosage, which was done.
It's better to find out soon as possible and take your thyroid med regularly - through your pregnancy and beyond.
You and the baby should be fine.
Just remember that taking your med is GOOD thing and they should be monitoring you for changes in your dosage throughout your pregnancy.

This sounds like a question you should ask your doctor. You can't do anything about it if it makes a difference when you start the meds. Anecdotal information may help to relieve your mind but I suggest medical information from medical personnel would mean much more.

Hi - I was on same boat as you are - I started my meds in 8 weeks. This was my second pregnancy and had no issues in the #1, Doctor told us if we delay it may result in low IQ of child etc and also effect is more pronounced if it is untreated before 12 weeks- that is when the brain starts to form up. We started as soon as we can and there were no side effect except that I had to get up early to get pill in the system. Supposed to be taken empty stomach and no food after that for sometime. Being pregnant it was togh to control hunger.

My child is now 6 month (yesterday) - he is a fine healthy baby, totally worth the effort. No IQ issues - he is ahead on milestones very similar to my first one.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Hypothyroid is relatively common and very treatable. I can't answer your specific question, BUT I have had hypothyroid and have been taking meds for 25 years. I was monitored through my pregnancy and had to adjust the dosage once, I think. Everything was fine. If you were diagnosed and started taking the meds, continue to take them. Your body needs it to stay healthy and to keep the baby healthy. Your thyroid controls your entire metabolism, so you shouldn't ignore it. Just work with your doctor to keep an eye on it. You'll continue to have the levels tested after you have your baby to see where they end up because the levels do change. If you still have it and it's just basic hypothyroidism, it's just a very tiny pill every day.
