Hypopnea (Unusually Shallow Breathing at Night) - Just Diagnosed

I was just diagnosed with hypopnea (unusually shallow breathing at night). I'm going to get a CPAP machine to help me sleep better. The doctor said I'm an unusual candidate considering that I'm 5'8 and 137 pounds. I'm not excited about the idea of looking like Boba-Fett (a star-wars character) at night, but anything that helps me function better during the day is welcomed.

Is there anyone else out there that has the same issue that can share their experience?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My brother has one and uses it. Seriously, how many people are going to know you look like Boba Fett at bedtime? They don't get to see you in your jammies or in your morning glory, they won't see your machine either.

I think once you use it, you will love it because it makes your day so much better.

I do not have it, but my 3 year old had it horribly. To the point she was waking herself up 25 times an hour. We found this out during a number of sleep studies. Her doctor said that she probably hadn't slept since she was born! She recently had her tonsils and adenoids removed and is now like a whole new little person. My 11 year old had it too, but not nearly as bad, we did the same with her and again, it made a world of difference. Might this be an option for you? Hope you are sleeping better soon!

While I don't have Hypopnea or Apnea, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia. I did have to go through the same tests as you plus another. Almost everyone I've talked to that got the CPAP, loves it. I think that most people that would hate it, don't even bother getting tested. Not everyone that has Hypopnea or Apnea are overweight. That's a big 'fat' myth! My husband is 6'0 and 145lbs! His dad is 5'11" and probably not more than 150lbs... I bought my husband a Tempurpedic neck pillow and it seems to help a lot with his breathing. I'm not sure that it would help you though... My hubby has OSA. Hypopnea is different.

Let me know how it works for you! I hope all goes well.

My husband uses the machine and looks like Darth Vader when he puts it on at night! But it gives him uninterrupted sleep that leads to more energy during the day. He even boasted that his dreams, used to be black & white and often had no endings, are now in color and have good endings! My husband is not overweight either. To me, it is heaven compare to the past (snoring)- listening to the little machine noise is like hearing waves in the ocean!
