Hello moms,

I've decided that I will do something about my weight not just complaint and feel fat and ugly with low self esteem. I know that diet and excersice alone will not keep me motivated nor give me the energy to keep it up so I am looking for something that will give me energy and control my appetite. I gain 40 lbs with my first baby and it has been 3 years and I have not been able to get back to my old self again. I want to lose 40 lbs before I try getting pregnate again. I heard about Hydroxycut but I am not sure of how it works or the side effects. So I guess what I am asking or want to know is if any one of you have taken it or know someone who tried it and did it work for them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for your responses. I have read every single one of them and I have decided that I am not taking ANY diet pills, like you all say it's a quick fix that will lead to health problems. I am 26 and just from reading your experiences I have gotten motivated on getting back to the gym. I went to 24 Hour Fitness this morning and became a memeber of the gym, so I plan on working out at least 3 times a week. I am young and dont want to risk my health. I will take walks in the park while my son rides his bike, thanks for the suggestion. My jorney has begun. I will control my food portions, and will try to count the calories in vs the calories out, I will keep you inform of my progress. I am really motivated right now, and Hope to stay this way. Thanks so much for all your advice.. I really appreciated.

Hi A.. I have 3 year old too and same thing 40 lbs over. This is what I have done in the last 10 weeks. Weight watchers flex plan which is point based and leaves room for foods you like. It seems hard at first but I have lost 25 lbs. and my appetite is less and I full longer. I have tried hydroxcut and the caffiene just made me anxious and I did not notice any changes.

I think if you simply give weight watchers a good try you will be pleased. You are welcome to write back if you have any questions.

I'm in the same boat that you are in.:) One day while listening to the radio I heard a lady talking about how she lost weight with herbal supplements. So, I went online to www.renuherbs.com WELL! I ordered the colon cleanser and the "fat soap." It works! You would not imagine that part of weight lose is having regular BM's!! The owners name is Robin Anthony, she is the wife of a former Houston Astro's player. These products work, sometimes the body needs to be detoxed. I'm a nurse and I don't like using weight lose products, BUT when I used this, I was hooked....b/c it works! My family members use them as well. One day on the site she posted a letter from a lady that said that she was using her Parasite Tea (it cleanses the body from parasites). Well, the lady said in her letter that she went to use the RR and saw a long "worm looking" thing in the toilet! EWWWWW, but yes, she had parasites in her. Robin eplained that these are things that give us those cravings for sweets and junkfood. Examples of having these parasites are: itching at night & sweet cravings, and etc. Well, my sister called me Sunday night to tell me...YEP, it happened to her too! She is using the tea and there she found parasites! These products do help with weight loss. I have no personal gain for telling you this, have NO profit from this at all. I'm spreading the word b/c it helped me and I want to see someone helped as well.

From my experience with Hydroxycut, I would suggest not to do it. I took it several years ago when it came out and it did work I lost weight very quickly, but I was also working out 4-5 days at the gym. One day I felt really funny, very figidity and I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my skin. I went to the doctor because my blood pressure was also high. The doctor asked me what kind of medications I was on, and I mentioned nothing but vitamins and hydroxycut. He told me to immediately get off of Hydroxycut, because weight loss stimulants like that ruin the lining of the heart, which was why my heart was working so hard.
I know it's a quick fix, but in the end is it worth it.

9 years ago when I was a Marine I took Hydroxycut to help lose weight and tone muscles. Basically its designed to remove the water from your muscles while your working out. After your workout you needed to immediately drink water to replace what was lost or you will dehydrate severally. You need to drink alot of water or else this is a very dangerous way to go! I took it because of the appeal of curbing my appetite in hopes of losing weight. While I did tone/ reshape alot of muscle this way I was not impressed with my weight loss and how jittery I felt because of the high levels of caffeine in it. One night I woke up feeling like my heart was going to jump out of my chest! I went to the doctors and they told me that it was the Hydroxycut that was causing it and if I continued I would end up doing alot of damage to my body. I stopped using it (Others who used this lost more weight then I because they did not hydrate, thus starving their bodies of the fluids they needed. I remember that they did say they felt sick or dizzy most of the time).

I started to research for something that was safer and would give me more energy without feeling like I was buzzed out on caffeine or like I was having a heart attack! I found a company called Nutrilite and was very impressed in their products and in the results I received.

If you research the company and the products and decide this is also something you would like to do, then I would recommend Nutrilite® HCA Plus which is similar to Hydroxycut's ability to curb the appetite but is safe. I also took Chrom Pic (which helps your body relearn how to metabolize), in addition to the HCA. I took both of these and went from a size 14 to a size 8 without losing any muscle gained. I wasnt paying attention to how long it took me to lose the weight. I want to say it took 6 months? I had those pull tabs on my belt line that I kept pulling until one day I couldn't pull no more and I had a hard time keeping my pants up! lol

(But I recently found out that they improved the formula and combined the HCA & ChromPic into Nutrilite Glucose Health. However if your only looking to curb the appetite then I would recommend the Slimmetry or the Carb Blocker)

Once I lost the weight I haven't had to go back and keep using the pills. Whatever my body "learned" about metabolizing itself has helped out alot. I thought that after my 2nd pregnancy (with twins) I would keep the weight and look like I did after my first... I was already back to a size 12. The person that introduced me to this company told me about the B vitamins in their energy drinks that support the metabolism and weight loss. So I tried it (no pills) and about 6-8 weeks after I started I lost the weight easily. Ive just had my 3rd pregnancy/4th baby about 4 months ago and with out using the pills and just the energy drinks - I again lost the weight.

I have to say that it lead me to sell their products (can you blame me) so as I learned more about the company I also learned that the company teaches and encourages you to eat right... but honestly I didn't put myself on a restrictive diet. I ate when I was hungry and I ate what I liked. (What can I say? I like to eat!) So its an easy way to start losing weight and getting the energy you need without beating yourself up (no side effects hehe). In the process I learned how to eat right portions and make healthier choices, but I never followed any diet "plan".

Hope this was helpful. And if you need suggestions on light workouts let me know, any amount of exercises do help to increase your results not to mention IS healthy for your body.

I have no advice about Hydroxycut, but I can tell you what worked for me.

My husband and I have gone on a modified version of the Atkins diet. We eat foods with no carbs, fiber (if there are carbs) and absolutely nothing with refined flours etc.

I've lost 27lbs since February and have another 11-20 to be within my heathly weight range.

Good luck!

I worked in the vitamin/health food industry for 13 years and we sold tons of this stuff. The major concerns are: if you have a pre-existing heart condition, DO NOT take. If you are overly sensitive to caffeine, I would steer clear. If you have anxiety issues or panic attacks, I would avoid as well.

Here is a website that gives a breakdown of the major ingredients and the pros/cons of the product: http://www.skinnyondiets.com/Hydroxycut.html?b=7924

Your best bet, in the long run, is monitoring your dietary intake, gradually changing your diet (smaller portions, choice of foods, etc.) & simple exercise. It doesn't have to be anything strenuos... walking or swimming is excellent.

Hope this helps :-)

Please please don't take diet pills. They can really do harm on your body. I was in the diet isle myself a few years ago and spoke to a lady who had heart problems b/c she used diet pills a lot when she was younger. You are worth staying alive and healthy...you don't have to be thin. Weightloss is a way of life..you have to change your life forever. You can just take a pill and expect the pounds to melt off and keep eating the way you want. There is one simple equation you have to remember calories in = calories out to maintain your weight...if you want to lose weight, restrict your calories and exercise so that your body will burn the excess fat off of your body.
If you don't want to do anything else...walk. Go for a walk while your son rides his bike. You'll not only get quality time together, but you'll teach him that exercise is an important part of life.

Hi A..

There is no such thing as a miracle pill. OTC diet meds are not healthy and give you false hope. The key to losing weight and keeping it off is eating healthy , watching your portions and exercise. In other words, a lifestyle change. I, too, am overweight after having my twins last September. I had success with my last pregnancy weight by joining Weight Watchers. I know what you mean when you say you feel fat and ugly. I've been there, too. It's amazing what a walk around your neighborhood will do for that, too.

I have tried it but it made me very jittery. I eventually buckled down and did the South Beach diet. It changed my way of eating for myself and my kids. I lost about 50 pounds and have kept them off for the last 4 years. I did the diet only to achieve my goal. Now I follow it moderately and I only allow myself to gain 10 pounds before I start it again to lose those unwanted 10 pounds. Good luck, I know how difficult it is after having 2 kids.

If you really want to loose the weight you need to cut back on eating and simply exercise. I have lost over 25lbs. All I do is walk 3-4 miles and count the calories I eat. I also have a podameter that way I know how much I have done at the end of the day. If you really set your mind to loose the weight you will succeed!

I've used it, and it works for a while, but like any diet pill, your body becomes immune to it after about 4 to 6 weeks. It does give you energy and helps with appetite control, but if you have a problem with caffeine, try the caffeine free one. There's no easy way to lose weight, but a very smart doctor told me that if you focus more on exercise than what you eat, you will be more successful at losing weight. The thing is, exercise creates endorphins which act as a natural appetite suppressant and energy/mood booster. (It's God's diet supplement!) I would say, go ahead and try it and make use of the time it will work for you, but don't be afraid to break a sweat doing something you enjoy - it's the best thing you can do for yourself. Start off slow and you will see how quickly you can increase what you can do and exercise will actually become addictive after a while, if you stick to it. Good luck and good health to you!

I arrived where you are last August after a report of high cholesterol (250) and high blood pressure.

I'll second the Melaleuca.com advice... I started taking the heart healthy supplements (all natural) and lowered the BP and the cholestrol in 4 months to 168. My doc was pretty impressed. I also used the Melaleuca fat conversion bars - used by many olympic athletes... Personally, I prefer the drink mix over the bars.

I started going to the gym 3 or more times a week and doing cardio and weights. I scaled back my "intake" and paid attention to what went IN my mouth. Once it starts coming off you're very motivated for it to continue. In 8 months I lost 58 pounds.

I DON'T believe in DIETS!!! Stay away from Atkins, South Beach, diet pills...all that stuff! The advice to avoid dairy, fake "sugars" and "white stuff" is good advice...but not great for me. I don't do "fake" foods or low fat and "lite". But all things in MODERATION!!! I want the taste of real sour cream - not the fat free stuff - so I pay attention to the portion size. You've heard it before... LIFE STYLE CHANGE. I refuse to eat fake food the rest of my life. It's not like I'm never going to have cheesecake or chocolate again! I can have dessert - just not every day and only 2 cookies - not a sleeve of cookies.

I don't count calories - BUT I pay attention to them and try to keep them under 1800 a day. I had to stop the emotional eating. "Oh I feel so fat...pass the m&m's..."

Breakfast is often real (not instant) oatmeal dressed up with a little sugar and fruit for breakfast. Micro a chopped up apple in the oatmeal with some cinnamon and sugar. Kashi cereal is high fiber and really good too. Something very helpful to me was to use the frozen entrees from Weight Watchers. Usually one "Smart Ones" for lunch with a side salad. Dinner is often a big salad full of fresh veggies, topped with some microwaved grilled chicken strips and REAL salad dressing - not the fat free stuff. I measure my dressing and salad toppings - estimate (not count) my calories and make allowences where I need to. For example - if I want a high calorie, real salad dressing I should cut back on the croutons or nut toppings, maybe skip the grated cheese. Think "600 calorie per meal". If you only consume 300 for breakfast, (DON'T skip breakfast...) and 500 for lunch, and 200 on healthy snacks, you've got 800 for dinner with your family - very do-able. And if dinner only costs you 500 calories - you've got enough left for a package of m&m's if you want them and 50 calories to spare! (OR - take that bonus loss for the day :0)

Check out www.sparkpeople.com - very helpful site. Also, www.t-tapp.com. T-Tapp WORKS and you can see fabulous inch loss in just 2 weeks doing the 15 minute (YES - 15) workout. Check out the "try before you buy" video clips.

Good luck! Email me if you want to talk more! You can do it!!!

Hi A.,

I took Hydroxycut and with diet and exercise, I lost 45lbs within 12 months (30lbs in 7 months). The dosage that it states on the bottle was a little much for me, so, I stopped taking the last dose in the afternoon so I could sleep at night. But, even with the before breakfast and lunch doses, it worked for me.

I have to say that there were times that I was very discouraged. I thought I was never going to get the weight off after losing the initial water weight (15/20 lbs). I started losing the weight very slowly. A pound every week or so, but, I learned that the slower it comes off the better. It does not come back as fast if you lose it slower. My new muscles weighed more than the fat so I had to take a chill pill and accept what my body was doing. Where I could see it was in my clothes. The scale may have been slow to go down but the inches around my waist and thighs were coming off really fast. My metabolism totally kicked in to high gear. I had more energy than I ever expected. It was wonderful, for me, my wonderful-supportive husband and my three kids.

I was also eating much better. I, still to this day eat oatmeal every weekday morning and only chicken breast for lunch. I eat pretty much whatever I want for dinner and on the weekends, but keep the chicken handy to breakdown the junk I might have eaten.

Once last tip. Drink lots of warm/hot green tea. This tea is an amazing fat fighter and cleans out all the yuck in your body. I try to drink at least two to four cups a day.

The only downfall that I would tell you that happened to me was that when I stopped taking the Hydroxycut or missed doses on the weekend, I got really bad caffeine headaches. They were terrible and I could not move. They felt worse than migraines for me. But. I am a total wuss and don't handle pain well. When I decide to start taking Hydroxycut again, and I will at some point, I am going to try the caffeine free. I think it will take away from the energy that it gives, but since I lost the weight, I do not need that extra boost.

Good luck to you and I hope my advice helps you.

Hi A.,
Actually diet and exercise WILL give you the energy you need to loose weight. I have exercised on and off for many years and earlier this year finally got serious about it and my diet. I have more energy than I have had since having kids! Weight Watchers is a fantastic program and you can go to meetings or do it online. I personally need to support of meetings to really get goiong. You may not want to do it all at once so you don't get overwhelmed. Try changing your diet first. Then after a few weeks work in some exercise (walking, videos, whatever your schedule allows). I wish you luck.

Like the person before me said, our bodies don't know what to do with all the unnatural substitutes. Nothing light is good for you. Also, u can try a colon cleansing and a liver detox. I did the colon cleanse after my 2nd baby and lost 10lbs. and continued to loose 20 more.

My mother who is 54 years old tried to lose weight by taking hydroxycut and she had to stop taking them early. I am not trying to scare you but rather warn you about those diet pills. My mother was taking them for 2-3 weeks and she developed a TIA (Transiet Ischemic Attack) or mini stroke. Thank God she did not develop any permanent damage. My mother DOES NOT suffer from diabetes, cholesterol, or high blood pressure. She is healthy but very overweight and tried to take a short cut to losing weight.

I know you probably heard this but there is no magical diet pill that will help you lose weight without dieting and execise. If there were, everyone would be thin.

The best possible thing you can do is join weight watchers. It really does work. You should also try walking for 30 min at least 3 days a week. In the long run, you will have to have a total lifestyle modification. Good Luck.

I have taken different types of weight-loss medications in the past and they work while your taking them but after a while you gain the weight back. I think that you need to decide if losing weight is something you want to do to better your health in the long run or if you're wanting to do this just for looks. I actually just went to an HERBALIFE party, where they explained to us on their products. They have things like shakes that contain protein, teas that give you energy and actually cleans and detoxifies your system. I heard testimonies on people that suffered from constipation that after taking Herbalife are well now and many other testimonies. They have differrent products for different needs and they are natural. I don't know what area you're from but if you like I can recommend a sales representative. I will say though, exercise is important. Good luck.

A long time ago, when Dr. Phil put out his Ultimate Weight Solution Book, he said something like, "If there was actually a diet pill or diet that truly worked out there, we would all be doing it and there would be no more overweight people."

Diet pills are part of a big marketing scam. You may feel less hunger at first but then you build a tolerance to them, just like you do anything else. It puts you on the path for a yo-yo, which is more frustrating than anything (and very unhealthy).

Remember that "slow and steady wins the race". You need to make good choices, one meal, and snack at a time. It is truly changing your lifestyle. You need to work in some time for some exercise, even if it is just a walk (which is most times the most healthy).

I've taken a lot of different approaches to dieting, and Weight Watchers worked for me. It helped me have an eating plan with a lot of freedom and I had someone to be accountable to. If you are going to pay money for something, invest it in the "support" not a product.

Reading Dr. Phil's book is really good too, because beyond teaching you healthy habits and changes that need to be made (which will also be taught in Weight Watchers), it helps you to identify WHY it is you overeat.

The quicker the fix, the worse off you will end up in the long run. I know this isn't the answer that we want when we have weight to lose.

One of my closest friends had a baby a year ago in A.. She is in her late 30's and gained 70 pounds. After the baby was born she had 40 to lose. She used Weight Watchers. By Christmas, she had lost 30 of it and had lost the rest by the baby's first birthday.

If you set your mind to it, you can do it. Be patient and willing to let it come off slow! You CAN do it!

My husband lost 40lbs and has keep it off for 2yr.
He cut his calories by making little changes, no cheese or mayo on lean burgers. Nothing fried!!! Stay away from white, white flour, white rice, sugar. If you need sweetener please us the least amount of sugar you can, DO NOT US ATRIFICAL SWEETNERS. BAD,BAD BAD. Think about it most people who are over weight use the pink, yellow or blue packets. Your body does not know what to do with this stuff and it stores it as fat! Also use butter in moderation. Do not use anything that is hydrogenated.
He started exercising three days a week on the elliptical and what keep him going was the fat conversion bar he was using. Instead of not getting to your fat burning zone (it takes 45 min of continual exercise to get there) you get there 15 min after you eat the bar and you stay there for 2 hrs.
You can only get this bar from www.Melaleuca.com You have to sign up to be a preferred customer. Less then what you spend to join any weight/diet club. Let me know if you need any more info.

I know you said diet and exercise alone wouldn't help but allow me to make a suggestion.
In December, I found a program in Denton called Baby Boot Camp. It's a national franchise of moms who can get a a challenging workout without hiring a personal trainer and a babysitter or purchasing a gym membership.
You get a personal trainer, a small class of other moms who support you, AND you bring your baby with you and s/he sits in the stroller.
I don't mean to sound like an infomercial but I tell everyone who will listen about how awesome I think Baby Boot Camp is!
Almost immediately, I had more energy. I now weigh less than I did before I had my daughter last March. My the best part for me is that there are other moms there who quickly become your friends so it kind of holds you accountable to go to class since you know they'll be looking for you. I've made a lot of really good friends in the class and I hang out with them outside of class!
I haven't really changed my eating habits but just having the guaranteed exercise 3 times a week ( you can do 1, 2, or 3 times a week) has really helped my weight and body fat composition.
I just thought I'd share what an incredible experience I've had here.
www.babybootcamp.com
I don't know where you're located but Baby Boot Camp is national. Similar programs like Stroller Strides and Stroller Fit also exist and you can easily find them on Google.

Hydroxycut is a major NO NO! It will make your heart race, your blood preasure will soar and you will get the shakes. The cause of the side effects is from ephedra. The bottle may say ephedra free, but it has been added under another name. (I am speaking from personal experience)Before taking any diet pills, try keeping a food journal so you can physically see what and how much you are eating a day...you me be surprised. Also, modify your diet and aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day.

I've never heard of that pill, but I can tell you what's worked for me. I've got over 100 lbs to lose, so it's very HARD for me to exercise. I was looking for something to get me moving in the right direction on the scale, so that I COULD start exercising and living a more healthy lifestyle. Once you've gotten too big, it's hard to be happy with the small successes! I started with a patch supplement that is helping me achieve control over portion sizes and shrinking my stomach. Mentally this is SO powerful in preparing for a long journey which will end in a fit body and healthy lifestyle!

I have found great success with the Jen Fe Power Patch. I started on it 5 weeks ago and have already lost over 20 lbs! It has totally taken away my cravings and reduced my appetite. I'm no longer snacking during the day either. Best of all, when I go to restaurants, I am only eating half the portion and boxing the rest for later!! It doesn't make me feel weird or jittery. And I've slept more soundly too. I used to get up every hour or two, but now I'm down to once a night! It's been great.

They are ephedra-free too!

My daughter's preschool teacher went from a size 14 to a 4 in 4 months!! That's what encouraged me to try them. If you have any questions or concerns about it, please let me know. I'll be glad to answer them or find someone who can.

We're all in this journey together!! Good luck!
