I have a hybrid Honda Civic 07. I have enjoyed the savings of having a much smaller car (going from a Chevy Suburban). Though, I have been disappointed with the claim to get 50+ miles to the gallon. I guess I do not drive it optimally therefore I do not achieve that kind of mileage per gallon. The car itself has a button that allows me to see how many miles per gallon I am achieving. If I had the chance to do it again, I would probably just get the regular Honda Civic because with the Hybrid you give up a lot MORE room in the trunk and going from a suburban to a small compact car that is the biggest loss since the hybrid's trunk is so much smaller than the regular Civic.

I have driven a Prius for the past year and would not recommend it for a family. Very space limited with children and not safe on the freeway. The car is VERY light and thrown all over the road when it's windy. I avoid driving my children in the car at all costs! It's a company car and I try to drive without the kids in it. However, the gas milage is fabulous.........not worth the savings though when you don't feel safe. It's great for a city car if you commute downtown, but not much room for families......

I have a Civic Hybrid that I got from Gilman. I've been very pleased with it. The one thing I had to get used to is that it dies at stops. It's the auto stop feature and since I'm a lot OLDER Then you a car that dies is a bad thing! So I had to get used to that. My gasoline bill went from 150 a month in an Xterra to 52 a month in the hybred. I think it was a very good investment.

I asked my brother-in-law the other day when Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler was going to come out with a hybrid. He's a sales manager at a dealership. He said the hybrids are not all they are cracked up to be. The main thing he said was that the batteries cost $8000 and typicaly only last 2 years.

I had never heard this and don't know if he is absolutely correct or not. Anyone else heard of this fact? I know I could afford to shell out $8000 on a car I am still making payments on (going with the thought that today's notes are 5 or 6 years. This is not thinking of leases.)

We have a Toyota Prius (2005) and love it. There is plenty of room for our daughter in her car seat and the mileage is great (around 44 miles to the gallon for around town). The hatch-back storage is roomy for hauling groceries and stroller. I find the ride comfortable and easy. One drawback for me, though, is that the road noise is louder than on some other cars, but it is quieter than most.

One last thing, be sure to take your car seat with you when you go look at cars or at the least when you have narrowed your choices. Not all rear-facing car seats will work in the Prius, but all front-facing ones do.

Hi,

We have a hybird. It's a solid and safe drive - we did go for the "touring edition" though with the larger wheels. Maybe the person who thinks it's "light" had an SUV before? But is has tons of safety features standard and is highly rated safety wise. It's also very roomy compared to other sedan or compact hybirds with comparable mph. My friend with 3 children is also very happy with hers. My husband commutes mostly on 183 to work and he averages 50 MPH a gallon.

About the batteries, it is NOT TRUE that they wear out after two years. That's totally wrong. You MIGHT need to replace them after 10 years, but it's the same cost/use issues as replacing a transmission on a regular car. Also, we got the Prius comprehensive warranty that covers EVERYTHING for 100,000 miles. You get free oil changes at the dealership too. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about hybrids (especially from other dealers), so just do the research for yourself.

The bad? Well, this annoying beep goes off when you're in reverse, but it's for safety - and you can disable it if you want.

Good luck car hunting!

Mr friend, Judy, purchased a Toyota Prius (spelling ?) a couple of years ago. She loves it, says it is roomey, and she claims better than great mileage !

I have rode in it, and I like the dash and the GPS. She has a baby and has plenty of space for him and his stuff.

Hope this is helpful.

Good luck and best wishes.
