Hunger and Vomitting (Kinda Gross)

Hey Mamas. Gotta a couple of questions. It's been happening for a while now and I know I need to go to a doctor but who has time, right? Here's what happens. You know how your stomach starts grumbling when your hungry? Well, if I don't eat almost immediately after the rumbles start, I have to vomit. I usually dry heave and have serious amounts of drool and then I vomit up stomach acids or whatever my body gets up. Then I have about 5 minutes to get something in my stomach or it happens again. I don't know why hunger triggers the vomitting. Anyone know why? Anyone else like this? It's a pain in the butt sometimes- like if we're in the car or I'm in class (where I can't eat) and I get hungry. If I'm in a place where I can't get to food- I'm gonna puke. Ugh. I try to carry something with me to snack on in case, but that's not always possible, nor am I always in a place where I can eat.

I had this in my first trimester. I had morning sickness all day long. I had to eat something in within 30 mins of the first feelings of hunger (they happened often) or I had the same thing you have. Is there anyway that you are prego?

Recovering from an eating disorder. I know this feeling all to well.

I now have to eat every two hours or I will be pooping stomach acid. I will take the pain of that over throwing up randomly any day...Except if I ever end up not making it to the bathroom...

I went so long without eating more the 150-200 calories a day for a very long time...My stomach just stared digesting itself away. Now because of this I have to make sure I have food with me at all times or be ready for the moment I am starving and then I can feel the digestion process start and have to find a bathroom.

The other thing that stinks for me is I have anxiety/PTSD. Attacks can be triggered by low blood sugar. So if I end up going too long between foods and then have something hit me as an attack...Lordy watch out because I am not going to be the best person to be around for about two hours.

When it comes to your health there is no...NO. If you have to eat but you are some place you can not do it freely....Screw it. You have to. explain to people you get sick if you dont eat.

I feel like some days I should wear a sign of some type that says...''Person get ravage hunger at a moments notice be prepared''.

Water can also help fill you up until you can get to some place to eat.

I am the only person I have ever known to have this issue:) Makes me feel a little better knowing that other's do have it in different forms.

My granddaughter does this too. She got hungry one day in Kindergarten due to not getting to school on time to eat. I had 5 til and when she got downstairs they told her she was too late. So she didn't get breakfast. She puked a little while later. I asked her what was wrong and she said she was hungry. I took her to McDonalds and she ate like a whole meal and did not pick at anything. She was fine all day.

I told the school that she was not sick, it was hunger, but they still would not let her come back the next day. So she missed 2 days of school due to not getting to eat breakfast.

They got an earful from me but if we are running late I tend to give her something in the car just in case. I think they should get to eat no matter what time they show up within reason. They don't even go to class until 8:30 and they don't even let them into the doors until 7:45. So they only have about 10 minutes to eat and get back upstairs. That isn't enough time for anyone to eat a full meal.

I would always keep a stash of food somewhere, either in my purse or the glove box. You know you need food and need it quickly. I would say if you don't want to puke plan ahead.

Please see your doctor and let us know the results. I had treatment for upper GI. Its important to respond to the GI issues to avoid cancer. They can see if a valve is not working properly and suggest ways to respond to your issues. Its very uncomfortable and sometimes you need a medical professional to decide next steps. I was helped by a GI clinic in Naperville but I expect there is a clinic that your family doctor can suggest more convenient to where you live.

This happened to me when I was pregnant. I got sick when my blood sugar was too low or too high. Had to take precautions not to ever skip meals or to wait to long to eat. I kept raw almonds in my purse.

Wow, such an unusual problem. It's quite odd.

It sounds like a definite GI (gastro-intestinal) problem. If you become hungry to the point that your stomach growls, and low blood-sugar is the problem, then that can trigger the Vagal Nerve, which could cause the vomit response...this is just conjecture on my part...

I would recommend you see a GI doctor and pursue metabolic testing.

May I ask how old you are? And do you eat normal, well-balanced meals, spaced at regular intervals, but not longer than 4 hours apart? Does this happen if you make sure you eat at least every 4 hours? Or does it happen sooner, say at the 3 hour mark?

It sounds like low blood sugar and possible dehydration. Make sure you are eating plenty of protein and drinking enough water. Maybe you need to eat more frequently. Grab a protein bar before class, and bring a bottle of water with you.

I would sometime get this way too. Maybe not to the point of actually vomiting, but I would get really nauseated when I was hungry. I learned to have saltines on hand all the time. I was diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux) in my middle twenties. Once I got that under control, those symptoms subsided. I get it now occasionally, but the bouts are fewer and further between.

I would think saltines and coca cola would help alot. If you need to, get some kind of doctor's note for classes or whatever, so you always have that stuff. sounds like low blood sugar of some kind.

I'm hypoglycemic (chronic low blood sugar), and nausea is one of the first signs that I've neglected to eat and need something NOW. If I get to the vomitting stage, I've ignored it for WAAAAAYYYY too long.

The best way to avoid it is to avoid ever getting to the "stomach rumbling" stage. Eat before that happens. Even if you aren't sure you're hungry, if it's been 4 hours or more, eat something. Ideally, snack on high protein foods and keep "emergency" food (jerky, granola bars) in your purse and car. Juice is also a great option, if you can't, or don't want to, eat. Orange juice or any other actual juice (not flavored beverage) will do it.

Vomiting with hunger can be a symptom of acid reflux. I have seen a doctor for acid reflux and they recommended Maalox, but not Tums.

I remember one time with I was a teen that it happened to me. I would say stock your car and your purse with good snacks, like peanuts, crackers, sunflower seeds, maybe even some protein drinks. NOOO chocolate though, It always made it worse for me. And try not to wait until your hungry. If you have a class at say 3, but you had lunch at 11, grab something out of your purse and eat it right before you walk in.
