Humidifier for Sons room...whats a Good One!

We have two of the Crane humidifiers. They're quiet, effective, and easy to clean (a huge plus compared to other models we've had). They come in a variety of colors and shapes. It's just over $40.

Hi. We are abroad now, so I do not know the brands...from the ones we have I would make sure:
1. Easy to clean
2. Long lasting (water does not run out after 6 hours!)

We also put a bowl of water under the bed. Somthing a friend from Russia taught me that they do in Moscow :)

We prefer the cool mist ultrasonic kind with no filter. We have found that it helps to run a ceiling fan to circulate the moisture so that it doesn't come straight down and saturate the carpet in front of it.

We had to replace ours recently and I was surprised that I could not find as cheap of one as I did in the past. Today you're looking at spending $40-50 unless you can find a sale. (Walgreens has put theirs on sale off and on recently.)

I took my son to the doctor just yesterday about a similar issue. My son has reactive airway disorder and I am hoping it doesn't turn into asthma later in life, but he gets that wheezy, stuffy cough that just makes him so miserable. The doctor said sitting in a super steamy bathroom for 20 minutes is actually way more effective than any humidifier or vaporizer. I run my son's vaporizer anyway, but not sure if it really helps all that much. I just got one at walmart for about $30. I can put Vick's vaporub in it, but have never used that feature. It is also a warm air vaporizer.

We have used Holmes brand cool mist humidifiers with success. They seem to be sturdy and are easy to use. Bed, Bath and Beyond stores carry them and others do as well, or you can get them online. The price range has been around $40-50, I think. Be aware that the filters are not always easily availble -- drugstores etc. don't seem to carry them so you might want to purchase extras when you buy the humidifier.

Someone said to let your child sit in a steamy bathroom -- that helps while the child's actually in there, and for a short time afterward, but I've found that (1) the effect wears off pretty quickly once the child is back in bed or out of the bathroom and (2) if you do it frequently it frankly is not good for your bathroom -- too much moisture affects the paint etc. eventually! A good quality cool mist humidifier is worth the investment and won't make the bedroom seem "steamy" or damp if it's a good machine.

We just replaced a vicks one for a safety first filterless kind. We paid $29 at walmart and it works so much better than the vicks one. It is quiet and you can adjust the mist to the amount that you want.

I had a Hunter (like the fan) brand. It worked well, but it was just run of the mill congestion. . . I think it was about $40.
