Huggies Overnights Question

OK, My son has been in Huggies Overnights for two years now and they have always been great. We recently started putting him the Size 6 and they are no longer working! They get so full that not only do they leak, but they bust open causing that crystal type stuff to go all over him and his bed. It's awful. We have to bathe him every morning now. Has anyone had this problem? Could we just have a bad batch and I should buy a new box and try again? Has anyone got any other recommendations? My son is no where near being potty trained, and he HATES pull ups. (He hasn't even been swimming all summer because he won't wear swim diapers.) So I need to find a diaper that works overnight for heavy urine!

What can I do next?

My son is 3 and still not potty trained. I have used the Huggies Overnights since he was around a year old or so and I have only had that happen to me just a couple of times. I think it's probably a bad batch.
Good Luck
I know how annoying that is.

My older son (14 now) had this problem when he was younger. They used to make something called a "diaper doubler". It is a pad, sort of like a kotex pad but does not have the sticky back. You put it inside the diaper and it gives the diaper extra absorbency. I would check into these. It helped us alot.

We use the goodnights. My son gets those little crystal things in his diaper sometimes, if he fills the thing up. I've found that if I cut off his drinking about an hour before bed then he doesn't fill it up as much sometimes. He goes through spurts where he'll wake him with this loaded diaper, then like this week he has woken up not very wet in the mornings. I'm not sure who makes the goodnights. I hear ya on the potty training. He will be 3 in January and maybe will go to the potty if I bribe him before bath time. I'm just convinced he's not gonna do it until his ready. I'm hoping my 4 month old daughter will not be as bad as him. She hates being the slightest bit wet already.

Cut down his drinking before bedtime. Don't give up on the potty training. Be consistent. I promise it will work! Do it cold turkey. Say goodbye to pull ups and diapers! But do try Goonights. They work great! By the way, your daughter will be much easier to potty train. I promise.

My daughter is 3 and wears the Pull Ups for 2-3T still, and they work great-no leaks. She is potty trained, but I still put one on her at night for accidents. My 6 year old is a big boy( nearly 4 ft. &90 lbs.) and has accidents time to time at night, and we use the Goodnights, but I make him go potty right before he gets into his bed, and eliminate drinking an hour prior, and it's helped, and if he does have an accident-it's not enough to actually leak through. Maybe try that? I'm not sure what else you could do other than double-up, or use a pull up under or something? Definately use a plastic sheet on his bed under his bed sheets, that has been a mattress saver for us as well.

Do the size 5s still work? If so, then you probably got a bad batch and I would call the number on the Huggies package and complain. They will probably send you a coupon for a free package or at least a discount on your next purchase. If you're having the same problem with the size 5s, then it's probably not a defect.

I have to say that I feel for you 'cause I hate those crystal thingies!! That's such a mess. I never had problems with those until I got a "bad" batch of pullups and the velcro would cause a small rip in the inner lining and when we'd go to change it, there would be those crystals everywhere!

Anyway, we've always had the best luck with the Kirkland brand diapers from Costco, even at night. I still have a partially used package of the Huggies Overnights that we never used 'cause they didn't seem to do any better than the Kirkland diapers and were much bulkier. My son is finally potty training so we're using the pull-ups now. He's 3 1/2 and is trying really hard to potty like a big boy. We've been ready for him to be potty trained for a year or more, but it took a while for him to get there too. It will happen. Sometimes it's just on their time schedule instead of ours. :-)

This sounds crazy, but you can use the size 6 overnights. Just add a posie pad (for incontinence in adults) or a thin maxi pad into his diaper. If he is a tummy sleeper put it at the top of the diaper on this inside under his bellybutton. If he isn't then just put it in the regular place. My friends do this and it really does work!

Side note: You can also use the pads in the little potty training potty if you're traveling or just hate the mess. Just put a plastic Wal-mart type bag in the potty and put a pad at the bottom. It will soak up the urine and then you can just throw away the sack.

Perhaps you could try the big kid type diapers for those who wet the bed, I think they are called "Goodnights." HTH
