Huge and Sore Early on in My Second Pregnancy

Just wondering...I'm 24 weeks into my second pregnancy and I am really surprised at how much bigger I am than my first pregnancy and how sore I am this time around. I feel like an old lady b/c my hips and pelvic bone are always sore! I mentioned this at my last OB appointment and my doc said it's normal and it actually gets worse with each pregnancy. Have those of you who have had two or more children experienced this? Not only am I more sore, but I was comparing pictures from my first pregnancy to this one and I'm about the same size now (at 5 months) as I was at 7 months in my first pregnancy. My weight gain (when compared to my first pregnancy) has been about the same (have gained 12 lbs. so far), but my stomach looks much bigger this time around. I'm afraid I'm going to have a HUGE baby (my first was 6 lbs.)!

What can I do next?

I wouldn't be too worried yet. I am 32 wks into my second pregnancy and had the same complaints. My doctor told me the same thing.

The same thing happened to me. I much larger and much more uncomfortable the second time around. By the time I was 7 months pregnant I had rather difficult time getting around. I was more tired that with my first, in more pain/discomfort and simply misserable. I found it exhausting to even go to the grocery store by the time I was 7 months with my second. NOTHING like my first pregnancy.

Hang in there!!!

Hey, L.,

I don't know if this is going to encourage or depress you, but this was exactly my experience with my second pregnancy at 35. People would ask how I was and I would say, "Oh, I'm fine; I just feel like I'm 100 years old!" Don't worry about a huge baby -- everything will be fine. Have fun!

yep ,
It's normal, for me it was like as soon as I was pregnant I was showing for my second. And I gained 30lb fewer than I did the first time and I was still bigger.

Totally normal, sweetie. I'm sorry. :) I didn't gain much more my second, but was significantly BIGGER, and my hip hurt so badly it was crippling. The size of your belly is no reflection of how big the baby is, so don't panic. You won't grow a baby you can't birth.

its normal dear... i showed sooner with my son than i did with my twins. and my back, hips, pelvic bone, and after a while my pubic bone hurt like heck. pretty much once i started to have a belly(20wks-ish). your body already knows what to do. its just getting ready way in advance. and there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. the pool helped for me with my twins but its march so i guess that doesn't help. just think you could have twins sitting on your lungs from 25wks to 37wks. i slept sitting up because i couldn't breathe. so be happy thats what you have. at least its normal.

We must be twins... lol
I'm going through the exact same thing. I was hoping I had twins. That would have at least explained my exponential growth. The only advice I have is a GOOD chiropractor (not all are good with pregnant women) and I sleep with a heating pad under my hips/lower back and a stack of pillows under my knees every night. It helps me be able to get out of the bed in the morning with out crying out for Jesus.

Our pregnancies sound the same! I am 28 weeks and agree that this pregnancy has progressed quicker than before. But it is normal. Your body has been there and done that once, so the muscles are looser than before, so they are ready to expand quicker than previously. I don't understand the pelvic being sore...I didn't experience that before, but am now! I also have a 29 month old (girl)and am having another girl May 22. I guess all I can offer is that your not alone. Congrats on your girl...they are tons of fun!

Hi L.
I am 36 and just gave birth to my 2nd baby-boy on 2/3. my 1st was born 4.5 yrs ago. I can attest to what ur ob said. I was sore all the time and i was huge. So have no fear, it does get worse with each.
