Cara, Alison and Katelyn. I've seen many spellings of these names (Alison and Katelyn in particular), just wanted to get a quick poll of how you think they are spelled. Thanks :-)

Thank you so much! This is fascinating to me. I honestly never even knew there was another way to spell Alison (I always thought 1 L)...but most of you say 2 L's...which is what my hubby says too. Funny.
Cara, Kara, Alison, Allison, Alyson, Allyson, I've even seen Aleson, Katelyn, Kaitlyn, Kaitlin, Catelyn, Caitlyn, Catelin. I'd go with Kara (I'm partial to K names), Alyson (just like the way it looks), and Katelyn (again with the K name, and my little girl is Kate, so I just like that...(^_^)). There's no right or wrong here. The pronunciation of these names is not too confusing, except for the Kah-ra/ Care-a issue.

I've seen Cara also spelled Kara. I have seen Alison spelled Allison, Allyson, Allisyn. I have seen Katelyn spelled, Caitlin, Caitlyn, Katlyn.
Cara or Kara...only way I have ever seen it. I personally think Cara implies "Car a" while Kara implies "Care a".
Allison for a girl, Alison for a boy (I don't like this name for a boy but one "L" is how I have always seen it for boys and YES I do know a boy name Alison).
Katilyn, Katelin, Catilyn...seen it a few ways but these are just a few.

Kara, Allison, Caitlin. Give your child the easiest spelling possible as she won't like spelling her name throughout life.
These names are common enough but not too common. That is what I decided to do with my children. My eldest went to school with three children with her name. My youngest it turned out to the special of the year with four variations of spelling. Only in Norway could I buy every conceivable item with her name inscribed correctly.

My neighbor is a Kaitlyn and goes by Kaity for short.
Allison should def be 2 L's. IIt could have a y sometimes. MO there is no point in having a name that will sound the same but be spelled differently...thus making your child's name spelled wrong everywhere unless she takes the trouble to spell it out.
