We took a photo of our daughter (we have three kids now) holding a sign that said "On or about 09/05/04, I'm going to be a big sister!!" and then we sent it out via e-mail to our families. It was very cute and our daughter (she was 1 1/2 at the time) loved smiling for the camera. I printed the photo out and have it in a frame that my kids look at frequently. It's a great way to get your child involved in the telling process!! Good luck!

I thought you could hand out those littel plastic eggs to everyone with #'s on them. Then inside each one print one word so that when their all together they say "In September, we are going to have another baby" Have them opened one at a time in order, and have each person read their word out loud.

I gave "gifts" to the grandparents. The 1st baby the gift was the PG test (in a plastic bag)! It took a minute but they figured it out!

Baby #2 was "gifts" of bibs and rubber ducks!
Baby#3 and #4 our oldest told them at dinner. A.

My sister told me she was preggers the 2nd time by having her 1st born wear a shirt that said I'm going to be a big brother! It was a surprise and got everyone talking about it right away so she didn't have to find the perfect moment over dinner.
I heard the best story about sharing the sex of the baby with the family. Parents I know had the doctor right down on a piece of paper what the sex was and put in a sealed envelope. They went to a store and shopped for a really cute boy and girl outfit to take the baby home from the hospital in. Then they told the cashier to read what's in the envelope and gift box the correct gender outfit and don't tell them. So at the dinner table with everyone around they opened the box so everyone could find out together. I thought it was such a cute idea...thought I'd pass along!
Congratulations!

Buy a T-shirt for your daughter that says "Big Sister" and let her wear it next time you see them. Let them pick up on it - they will immediately!

if you're having an Easter Egg hunt, hide one of those BIG eggs somewhere, and put a note, shirt or something saying, the Easter bunny would like to say Congrats to Mom and family for their new baby!! Have fun, let us know how you do it. And Congratulations!!

if you are thinking about going with the t-shirt idea, The Children's Place had big sister/little sister t-shirts that came out with their new summer line. Its less time consuming that having to make your own :)

My husband and I are parents of a beautiful 10 month old daughter. We told my family at my father's birthday party. We bought baby carrots, baby pickels, baby spinich... In the card we wrote something like...for you on your b-day, baby carrots, baby pickles, grand baby and baby spinich. It took him reading it twice for him to figure it out but the expression on everyones face was priceless. Make sure you get it on video!

Congratulations! You could have a t-shirt made for your daughter that says "Future Big Sister" or something creative like that, and have her wear it to Easter dinner. Don't say anything until people notice the shirt. That might be fun?

I'll add to the tshirt idea... my son was 2 when I got pregnant. I bought a plain white tshirt and some iron on letters - keeping it simple I just put BIG BROTHER. It was a great hit and he wore it for every major occasion for about a week. It made him the center of attention, and not me. Good luck!

I took one of our sonogram photos and taped it on to a regular photograph. Then I told my family, "oh, here are some family photos I wanted to show you" (this will work better because you already have a daughter so you can say you want to show photos of your daughter). And then they flip through it and see the sonogram photo... The reaction was great!

I found out right before Thanksgiving, but wanted to wait to tell our parents because I had one miscarriage already... We gave both sets of parents digital photo frames as gifts for Christmas, and put pics of our families on them, including the first ultrasound pic of the new baby:-) They both absolutely LOVED it!

there is a children's book by Billy Crystal called I Already Know I Love You. It is about a grandfather who can't wait to meet his daughter's baby. My daughter is two and I still get teary when I read it.

There is also another book called God Gave Us You. It is a bear family and the baby bear is asking the mom all kinds of questions...really cute book.

Anyway, you could give each of the grandparents a book to unwrap and let them read it

We made up little photo flip books of each of us (my hubby and me) holding big signs in front of us that read:
You
Are
Going
To Be
Grandparents!
With the grandparents one (the last one in the series) there was an arrow pointing to my belly and a big smiley face in the "a"
The final page of the book was a copy of the sonogram

Have fun!

When you jump in and the camera is about to go off make the big announcement. You'll have a great picture of your family full of surprised and excited faces!! Congratulations.

I like A. J's suggestion about the big white bib.....

For my first born, we wrapped up infant bibs in tissue paper and gave them as gifts, everyone opened at the same time....it was very memorable!

For my second born, we were at my parent's for my father's birthday. We bought a 'happy birthday' mylar balloon and my husband wrote on the balloon "we are expecting our 2nd baby" (something like that)....time went by and no one noticed for a while. As he was opening gifs, my 14 year old nephew read the balloon, looked at me from across the table with eyes wide open and I just nodded. Then, he said "grandpa, read the balloon".... It was awesome...

Congratulations! Have fun!!!!

I like the t-shirt idea. You could also make a slideshow of pictures of your daughter and you, and then end it with a picture of her in the t-shirt. Set it to music, and post it on youtube, a blog, or another site. Then send the link to everyone! :)

My husband and I wrapped up presents for each of our parents-they were onesies with "Grandpa Loves Me" and things like that on them. It is for our first baby so it was a real surprise for them. Maybe something Easter themed? An Easter egg hunt with one egg that spills the news?

I was pregnant with my 2nd child when my first born was 6 months old.

I bought a large plain white bib fro a craft store and some fabric paint. Then I wrote "Big Sister" on it.

When the family was seated for Thanksgiving dinner I stood with the camera while my husband put the bib on our daughter. It took a few minutes for anyone to notice but when they did it was awesome. I caught it all on tape & have a few snapshots as well that are truly priceless!

Congratulations!

When we were pregnant with our second, we announced at Thanksgiving by making a toast "to our family with us today, those who couldn't be here, and those who will be here in about 6 months." It took a minute for everyone to realize what we meant and it was fun to see the light dawn on their faces.

Anyway you do it, it is happy news! Congratulations!

I love the egg idea with everyone reading their word outloud!!! just remember if you do choose to frame sono pictures...they fade after time so always make a copy of them and frame the copies!!! I never had to tell my family because I was always sick and they knew the moment they saw me...but it is fun to let the kiddies do most of the work...you could also hide baby names in all the eggs...do pink and blue eggs and have girl/boy names in the eggs...they'll figure it out...

I would totally do it during your easter egg hunt. I would put little baby things in the eggs so when they opened it would give off a huge clue.
Or you can make a cake and put a momma chick or bunny(made of marzapone) on it with a bump on her tummy.

Hi A., we just went through the same thing. I have a 12 year old daughter and an almost 2 year old. When i found out i was pregnant with my now 22 month old, we just had my oldest who was 10 at the time tell the great news. But we just found out a few weeks ago we are pregnant again, so what better way then to have our 22 month old daughter share the news this time. So we decided to get a shirt made for her, that read...."Im Jayden, the big sister", and we had her wear it around the family until everyone noticed and it was a big hit! Just an idea for ya....and congrats and good luck!!

When my older son was a baby, I babysat another baby boy in my home, so I could stay home with my son. The baby boy's parents would let me borrow their video camera from time to time to tape the two boys playing together. One day while the camera was rolling, I asked my son; "Do you want a baby brother, or a baby sister?" He said he wanted a baby brother AND a baby sister! It was on the tape, so when the parents came to pick up their son, I told them that my son has a message on their video camera for them. They called us later that night to congratulate us. :)

A.,

My brother and SIL sent out an email with the US from Aliens - to announce that the pictures from the real US didn't work out. They wanted to know B/G.

When they discovered they were pregnant, they were actually staying with my parents, but said my SIL had a bug, so she wasn't feeling well. For the Christmas party, my parents received 'My story as your Grandma/pa' books from them. It took them a few minutes - but they caught on when the rest of the family started oohing, ahhing and oooooohhhing and shouting congrats. :)

For baby #2, you might have your oldest start talking to your tummy, but being 12 months old she might only be able to manage 'baby'. :) Were she a bit older, she could go through 'introductions'. Baby, this is Grampy, he gives the best shoulder rides, Baby this is Nana, she makes the BEST jam!

Good luck!

Here's a variation on what my cousin did: You can get an Easy Bake oven (which you could reuse later to play with your daughter-is that too sexist?) and put a hot cross bun inside (Easter treat). When you're ready to announce it, bring it out and set it on the table until they guess your news (a bun in the oven!).

Whatever you do, have fun with it!

I passed my mom a cute baby-type photo frame, but in place of a picture, it said "picture due June 19" ... I counted to 12 before she figured it out, then she was so excited she almost punched me in the eye trying to hug me. The second time around, I gave our 2-year-old the sonogram and casually asked him to give it to grandma. And I stayed out of arm's reach!
