How to Stop Nail Biting - Battle Creek,MI

Not long after my baby boy was born, my little girl started biting her nails. I think it started because I was so busy, I probably neglected her nails for too long in between trimmings. Now I'm trying to figure out how to stop the nail biting. I haven't had to trim them in weeks because she always gets to it first. Any tips would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

Have you tried that nail polish that is called No Bite?? It is just a clear nail polish but it has a very bad taste to it. I used it on my 21/2 year old to help her stop sucking her thumb and it worked.

try nail polish remover with Biterex(almost all have it inside) in it, it is very very nasty and worked for my cousin!

Try putting band-aids around all of her fingernails. My son continuously put his hands in his mouth, and it worked for him. I just had to put them on a little tighter so it was harder for him to chew off. Just a suggestion! Good luck!

Try nail polish. If that doesn't work they have a very safe non-toxic nailbiting solution at stores like wal-mart and target. You apply it to the nails, and when the bite them or even suck their fingers, they get a nasty tatste. I know it works..i had the same problem..only it was me, i used to bite my nails if i were nervous.

hi A., If you can talk to your 3 year old, thats where I would start. Purchase her own nail brush, she can clean her own nails. Purchase the fake childrens nail polish. Show her how big girls take care of their nails. Show her nails in magazines not creepy ones nice clean healthy nails. Is she nervious sometimes children who are nervious will bite their nails. Is she hurting herself by biting them too short? Good luck. B.

Have you tried putting nail polish on her nails? When you first put it on, the odor isn't great and might keep her from biting, but also she may not want to mess up her "pretty" nails by biting them.

A.,
I don't know how to stop it - but I wish I did. My son is 2 1/2. I don't have any other children yet - although I am pregnant. He started biting his nails a few months ago - and does it constantly. I think he does it when he is nervous? If you get any good responses - I would love to hear them!
