How to Rent a House on the Coast for the Weekend - Single Dad and Son

Can anyone near Portland recommend a good place to look for a house on the coast to rent for a weekend?

I promised my son that I would take him to the beach this summer (he is 3), and I do not want to drive out there and drive back all in one day, so an overnight on the beach would be needed.

I am not big on hours and hours of driving, so someplace close to the coast west of Portland would be ideal.

Thanks.

best,
P.

We love both Pacific City and Manzanita.

Both have great houses and motels for good prices.

We love PC for the big dune to climb, watching the surfers, bonfires and the Grateful bread bakery not to mention the best micro brew and burgers at the Pelican brewpub ( it's kinda pricey though).

Manzanita has good prices on motels...shouldn't have problem getting one unless it's 4th of July week. It's close to Cannon beach which has great shops, and the beach is beautiful. Seaside is a few miles away too and fun for a day trip but much more crowded..lots of arcade games and bikes to rent.

I suggest a motel bc the cleaning fees for a house for just one night can be up to 100-150 bucks.

Have fun;-)

We go to the Tolovan Inn. They are the condos that are near Mos's in Cannon beach. There is a really nice city park there with swings and a big open beach with a little warmer stream runninng that my daughter love to play in. Plus the tide pools are there and close. http://www.tolovanainn.com/

We go to RockaAway Beach too - its a longer drive though. We stay at the Haus Nautica - but there are condos there: http://www.hausnautica.com/ - it is a super cool little town, with a train that goes to Garbaldi and an amazing beach! Its not as crowed as Cannon Beach either.

Have you thought about camping in a tent? There are quite a few state camp grounds and you can find them through a search online for Oregon State Campgrounds.

We like to camp and have gone that route. We have a small camper, though. But I have tent camped at Oswald West State Park. I believe it is now closed, but it was a lot of fun and not very expensive.

Our kids love to go camping, whether tent or camper, it doesn't seem to matter. Cooking on a camp stove is half of the fun, too.

Hope you both have a great experience.

I highly recommend the Anchorage Motel in Pacific City. I know you asked for house info, but this place has units with kitchenettes and dining tables, multiple bedrooms and couches in different sizes. They are also very affordable! It is not what you would call "up to date" in their accommodations, but it is clean, bright and cheery! I love taking my family there (2 adults, 15, 13, 11 yo and a 10 month old). Also, Pacific City has a fantastic beach area and it's only about 2 hours from Portland (through Tillamook).

Good luck!
