Hi, just moved into a cute little condo, however whom ever lived here before, it looks they used Pledge? on the black top of the stove and on the dark laminate counters. There is this white film over everything, and I cannot for the life of me get it off? Does anyone have any ideas? Ive tried everything!

L.,

I'd try simple green first. It will cut through just about anything. If that doesn't work, I'd try a Mr. Clean magic eraser.

Good luck,

The only thing that works for me on the black stovetop is "cooktop magic" from Home Depot or Lowes. (You probably could find it online, too.) I know there's another product called "countertop magic" from the same makers--it's worth a try!

A great investment for cleaning EVERRYTHING is a hand held steam cleaner. It sanitizes everything and makes the hardest clean ups pretty much effortless. I use the Scuncii model. You can get it at Walgreens for about $30.
Hope that helps!!

I would try vinegar and water-- that can cut through anything! Also great for cleaning coffee pots and dishwasher.

Hi L.,

Not sure what you have tried cleaning product wise but here are some suggestions that have worked at my house. Bam easy off cleaner, magic erasers, or an acid based cleaner. You might have already tried these cleaners, but maybe it will be a good reason to get a new stove.
Hope this helps

I can't believe no one suggested Melaleuca's products, especially Sol-U-Mel, which is what I would use to remove it. This stuff gets gum off of concrete and ink off of suede sofas. I found out through personal experience. All of the 350+ products are great. I shop with this company every month for those things around my house, including cosmetics and personal care and over-the-counter items. They are non-toxic and safer to use with the kiddos in the house. They are also less expensive than the store brands. If you would like more info on how you can shop with Melaleuca, just let me know. Good luck.

Hi L.,
I would try vinegar and water, or straight vinegar, it is a lifesaver with things like this and will not harm any of your surfaces. If that does not work, google "how to clean everything" and there is a website with an alphabetical listing of everything you can imagine. Another is Heloise's tips. Good luck.

Sounds like lots of good advice. Stick with something non-abrasive and natural. Anything that's harsh on your counters and stove top is also harsh on you! I use a non caustic cleaner/solvent that is also environmentally friendly (this is important too). We have to leave the environment safe for our kidos.

YOu are going to have to use dish soap. It is the only thing that is designed to cut through high levels of oil. Use it straight...it will be messy, but will do the trick.

I would google the counter top type to see what types of cleaners you can use. If it is a formica counter top I would try an S.O.S. on a small area to be sure it is not too abraxive. Did they possibly get oven cleaner everywhere? It turns white too.

you might have to soak the bench then razor it off. otherwise, get some degreaser, that always works. (My friends have a cleaning business & i work for them now and then) Good luck.

I would suggest using some Simple Green because it's a great degreaser. You do have to put in 1 part simple green and then 2 parts water otherwise the concentration is too strong and be sure to wear gloves because it WILL dry your hands out.
But use the simple green and a sponge and I'll bet the stuff comes right off.

Before trying the Magic Eraser, which has caused others to get serious chemical reactions and burns, try something called scour off. It is non-toxic and no smells. My company sells it and I actually just used it on cooking oil stains on some of my cooking and baking pans and it came off. I couldn't get it out any other way , but this stuff got it off. It also cleans porcelin white sinks, you know the kind that always gets stained and is hard to get off. SO this scour off stuff is on my website, but I don't think I can post it here, so if you want click on my profile and you should be able to find the site called switchyourstore . Good Luck, oh and if you decide to go with the magic erasers, I would where gloves, definitly.
