How to remove ink stain from carpet?

Here is a very quick question. How do you get out ink pen from carpet? My 7 year old accidently broke the tip off of a pen doing his homework. As he was carrying it to me it was dripping on the carpet. Then it got smeared. Our carpet is light tan. We tried alcohol, vinegar, etc. I would like to keep it to something not to toxic to clean it. Home Depot told me to get something that was very expensive ($30.00) and too toxic. I have lived in this apartment for 6 years so I am not worried about what the office might say, however, I still need to live here, so the carpet can't have that stain on it.

What can I do next?

Summary

There are many different stain removal products in the market, such as hydrogen peroxide, green work, Lysol, etc. Look at the article for more moms' advice, and if it didn't work, contact the professional.

Hi K.,

I am a 61yr old grandmother. Hair spray is a good answer to ink on almost anything. It may take many applications of spray. This works very well on fresh ink. I just used it on my dinning room table clouth.

good luck

What about goof off or awesome? goof off can be bought at lowes or home depot and i think i got the awesome at target or a dollar store. ive used both and they both have been very effective for different things. awesome got lipstick off my jeans when i didnt remember to empty my pockets out. the lipstick and my jeans went through a wash and dryer cycle and the stain still came out and the goof off got marker off my walls after my son had a feild day with the newfound marker! hope this helps.

Try hydrogen peroxide...low cost, cheap hydrogen peroxide you can probably get at the dollar store for 2/1.00. I have tried it successfully on wine stains, pet stains, hair dye, markers, track marks, etc. Just pour right over stain and dab with a clean white towel. It magically comes right out and dries nicely. (Hint: Use a white towel otherwise your towel will become discolored.) Hope this helps... Blessings

I know Oreck has a couple of stain removers that work fantastic (they actually demo it using a red magic marker on the carpet). One is for pet stains and has odor removing enzymes, one is the same without the enzymes and one is a last resort for things like grease, tar, oil, etc. I know they're under $20 (depending on which one you get and how big of a can or bottle).

It doesn't look like there is a store in Palm Harbor, but there may be one in a surrounding area, or if you contact me, I can ship one to you from Jacksonville.

Hairspray, or Lysol. Otherwise the Bissel carpet stuff works great. My son has his own car detail business and that's what he uses to clean the cars carpets. Get everything out.
Good luck

The best thing I know of for bad carpet stains is SPOT SHOT. It comes in a blue can with a bright orange top - although now I believe they also make it in a plastic bottle (like the Windex type bottles) which is also dark blue and orange. It works really well on most bad stains. But you have to spray generously, leave in, rub with a cloth - and repeat three or four times probably. GOOD LUCK!

Try salt and club soda. Just mix the salt into the stain, rub, wait and rinse with club soda. This works like a charm. But, if you've tried to many products any new product you try may not work. Oh and hairspray takes out a lot of stains - works great on clothes. Good luck.

Hairspray!!! Spray it very heavily with hairspray. Aerosol or pump, doesn't matter. Then make sure you wash it with warm water and soap after. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
