How to remove ink stain from carpet?
Here is a very quick question. How do you get out ink pen from carpet? My 7 year old accidently broke the tip off of a pen doing his homework. As he was carrying it to me it was dripping on the carpet. Then it got smeared. Our carpet is light tan. We tried alcohol, vinegar, etc. I would like to keep it to something not to toxic to clean it. Home Depot told me to get something that was very expensive ($30.00) and too toxic. I have lived in this apartment for 6 years so I am not worried about what the office might say, however, I still need to live here, so the carpet can't have that stain on it.
Summary
There are many different stain removal products in the market, such as hydrogen peroxide, green work, Lysol, etc. Look at the article for more moms' advice, and if it didn't work, contact the professional.

Try hydrogen peroxide...low cost, cheap hydrogen peroxide you can probably get at the dollar store for 2/1.00. I have tried it successfully on wine stains, pet stains, hair dye, markers, track marks, etc. Just pour right over stain and dab with a clean white towel. It magically comes right out and dries nicely. (Hint: Use a white towel otherwise your towel will become discolored.) Hope this helps... Blessings

I know Oreck has a couple of stain removers that work fantastic (they actually demo it using a red magic marker on the carpet). One is for pet stains and has odor removing enzymes, one is the same without the enzymes and one is a last resort for things like grease, tar, oil, etc. I know they're under $20 (depending on which one you get and how big of a can or bottle).
It doesn't look like there is a store in Palm Harbor, but there may be one in a surrounding area, or if you contact me, I can ship one to you from Jacksonville.

Hairspray, or Lysol. Otherwise the Bissel carpet stuff works great. My son has his own car detail business and that's what he uses to clean the cars carpets. Get everything out.

The best thing I know of for bad carpet stains is SPOT SHOT. It comes in a blue can with a bright orange top - although now I believe they also make it in a plastic bottle (like the Windex type bottles) which is also dark blue and orange. It works really well on most bad stains. But you have to spray generously, leave in, rub with a cloth - and repeat three or four times probably. GOOD LUCK!

Try salt and club soda. Just mix the salt into the stain, rub, wait and rinse with club soda. This works like a charm. But, if you've tried to many products any new product you try may not work. Oh and hairspray takes out a lot of stains - works great on clothes. Good luck.

Hairspray!!! Spray it very heavily with hairspray. Aerosol or pump, doesn't matter. Then make sure you wash it with warm water and soap after. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

I like to shop cheap... hair spray is one way to fight the nasty stains, and the dollar store is another. they have most of your cleaners you would find at other places usually for less. I shop with coupons so no matter where I go i save some $$, but I bought some of there brand carpet cleaner and its worked on small stains, and they also carry hot shot which gets up bigger stains. I feel your pain, we live in an appartment and have been here for only 1 1/2 months and I already have cleaned the carpet 3 times!

Hi K.,
A product called Sol-u-mel from Melaleuca will get it out quickly and is completely safe for your 7 year old to even clean up his own mess. That is the only non-toxic product that I know of that will remove ink.
Hairspray, the cheapest aerosol you can find, would be the next bet but I would make the kids go outside and open the windows. It is extremely toxic but easy to buy and it's cheap.
Good luck!

Spot Shot - just like what Michelle said. It's at Walmart and in the cleaning aisle. It's about $3 a can but well worth it. I buy it from Sam's Club - as you get a double package ... and it never sits idle at my home! :)
I have gotten blood, ink and marker out of our tan carpet with no one the wiser.
Spot shot all the way!

You might try to spray hair spray on it ( just a little at a time) then blot with a white tissue. This will usually take a while (it slow going) but it usually works.

Try Hair Spray. The liquid kind. It works to get ink off of clothes VERY well. I keep a bottle of hair spray in my laundry room at all times. Spray it on the stain and let it sit from just a min or two and then use cold water to rinse. It may take a time or two but it should work. Good luck!

I've never tried it on carpets, but Oxyclean is an amazing product. It has gotten out every clothing stain I've ever tried it on - and it's safe for colors as well as white. You could mix it as a "paste" with some water then apply to your carpet and blot out with an old towel. But maybe try it in an inconspicuous area (like a corner or under furniture first.) Good luck!

I know that this sounds crazy but spray hair spray on it and then blot with a dry cloth of some sort. As long as the ink was not permanent ink this should work. I have found that pump hair spray works better than spray hair spray. You may need to do it a few times to get it all up. Make sure the area is pretty well saturated with the hair spray. If that doesn't work try goo gone that is pretty good too. Good luck!

Try hairspray and a LOT of towels with warm water. The hairspray will loosen the ink, but may make it spread if you're not careful to soak it up right away. I would repeat this several times, and then finish it off with something like Oxyclean. Hope it helps!

K.,
Unfortunately, you may have already set the stain by trying 2 other products that didn't work. The best type of product for ink is a citrus based product, such as a d-limonene. Blot the stain and work inward not in circular motion. You can still get some of the stain out, but I can't guarantee all will come out as I mentioned above. In the future, when you have a stain, call your local janitorial supply company and they can help with the proper product depending on what caused the stain. Good luck.

Don't know if this will work on carpet, so you might want to test just a small area first...but when I wore white uniforms to work and would get ballpoint pen ink it could be removed by spraying them with hairspray and rinsing w/ water. It might be worth a try, if you don't get a better suggestions.

Since the stain has dried, this leads to another problem, in addition you have tried other products on the stain, which may have 'set' the stain. You could try 2 things at this point,
'Carbona' cleaner (blot a little on one place to see if this will work), or 'Oops'(again, blotting, never rub a stain, always blot). If you could have caught it while it ws wet, aerosol hair spray works like magic, it lifts the ink off the fabric, but since this is dry, this won't work. Lastly, you could try to match the color with a fabric pen and try to blend in the color...
