How to Get Wedding Ring off of Swolen Fingers?

Hi ladies.
I am 8 months pregnant and have had a great pregnacy thus far. This past week, my ankles and fingers have become pretty swollen. I would like to get my engagement ring and wedding band off before my hands get any bigger. The problem is, they won't come off! Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. After soaking my hand in cold, soapy water, and with my husbands help, we got the rings off! He said he hated hearing me scream in pain, which makes me pretty nervous for him to hear me during labor:)

Hi S.!

I second the cold... also I would try to elevate it as much as possible just like you would with a sprain or other injury. You need to be very careful trying to get it off though so you do not injure your finger to cause further swelling though.

When I swelled up during my pregnancy my Dr told me to drink more water. Did not make any sense to me but it did help relieve some of it but my toes and fingers still looks like sausages but my ankles went down a TINY bit- maybe it will help?!?!?!

Also, call where you got your rings from. They may have some suggestions. My girlfriend just had the same problem and while she had no choice but to have her rings all cut off they are fixing the ones that were purchased through them for no cost.

I really wish you lots of luck! Blessings to you and yours!

I agree...cold water and any greasy oil or lotion.

I had the same problem.

If this doesn't work, you may have to go to the hospital to get it cut off (awful, I know!).

I hope it works!

soap or hand lotion will make your fingers slippery enough to slide it off.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Elevate your hand and place it in a bowl of very cold water. You could try some butter or lotion to help it slide off. Good luck.

Try windex. Sounds silly but it works.

Do whatever you can to get your hand as cold as possible (safely, of course). It could be as easy as putting your hand in cold water for a period of time. This could possibly constrict the blood vessels in the area, decreasing the amount of swelling - sort of how you would put ice on a sports injury to reduce swelling.

Additional steps could include using a slippery product like baby oil, vaseline, conditioner, or lotion that could encourage the rings to come off. It's messy but it could work.
