Hi L.- Good for you for using cloth diapers and natural cleaners, so much better for your baby and the rest of us here on earth too! I would put a couple of cups of white vinegar in the wash with the diapers. I bet lemon juice would work too but vinegar was easy and cheap. The diapers did have a faint vinegar scent but no pee smell, good luck!

I've heard of them problem when I was looking into why my covers all leak. It could be that your covers need to be "Stripped" of detergent build up. All you do is wash several times in HOT water only, NO detergents no nothing. Just the HOT water.
Hope that helps!

I just got a new washer and I noticed that the clothes smell better, and feel softer, with less staining. I haven't changed anything I do, and no new detergents!
I was thinking if you have a pretty old washer, that might be part of why the smell doesn't wash out.

I found that if the cloth diaper is not 100 % cotton it stinks more. I wash the diaps twice, first time cold with BAC OUT and Ecover detergent, second time hot with Ecover detergent, and extra rinse, the last rinse i add some lime juice every few times.. so far this has worked for me. hope that helps

I have never used cloth diaper, but just wanted to say if her pee "stinks" when you are removing a pee-only soiled diaper, she has bacteria in it and most likely has a urinary tract infection.
A smelly diaper was the first sign my daughter had a UTI. One month later it had traveled up to her kidneys, which is then much more dangerous.
If her pee smells get a urinalysis done at the doctor.
ps..vinegar is a good cleaner replacement
