How to Get Rid of Scar?

My 3yr. old daughter fell 3 months ago and had 3 stitches next to her eye. Since the accident I have been applying mederma to the area 2X a day. It does not seem to be lightening up at all. I was wondering if there was anything else I should be applying or doing? I did keep a hat on her and loads of sunscreen on during the summer. Please help clear up her face. THANKS!!!

What can I do next?

My son is 21/2 and had stitches this summer as well on his cheek. His scar is about 11/2 inch long. THe plastic surgeon who did it said, that you could spend thousands of dollars on scar creams etc. but he only recommends sunscreen.sunscreen..sunscreen. He told me that the scar will lighten a year from the date it happened. It just takes time. I too had stitches on my arm because of skin cancer and it is not light in color, but at first it was red for a while. Hang in there!

It takes a few years before a scar will start to show a decrease in appearance. one thing is to keep that area hydrated, also rub the area with pure aloe jell or aloe juice. Make sure that he does not get a sunburn in that area or it will just set back the regeneration of the skin cells. We shed our skin 24 hours a day. Skin is the largest organ we have. We are constantly making new cells well old ones die off. As the layers of skin shed away from the scar his scar will start to seem less and less but that takes time.
I was bit by a dog over 24 years ago. The scar is very light but if I look close I can still see if on my cheek.
My sons split open his head at age 3, he is now 18 and when his hair is all cut off I can still see a little scar but not unless I look close. So it will start to disappear but it will take time. I am Sorry I wish there was a great cure.

Hi N., I had a scar and was using maderma but it didn't seem to work either. I gave up and just didn't let it bother me anymore, but after about 3-4 years it finally dissapeared.

My son had stitches when he was 1.5 years old, and again exactly one year later. He is now 5 and you can barely see the scars. I can see them because I know they are there (one on his upper forhead, one right above his eyebrow), but others haven't ever noticed them. They will fade over time, but won't go away. We tried Mederma for a while, but it really didn't work. Multiple doctors told me I can try it but it won't work miracles and make it go away completely. They were right. Just give it some time.
