How to get a cost estimate for replacing my floor?
Okay, mamas! My husband and I want to have new flooring in our whole house (part ceramic tile and part carpet). We have about 400 sq. ft. that needs to be tiled and about 800 sq ft. that needs carpet. Have any of you had flooring done recently and remember how much it cost? We are guessing somewhere around $5000 but really have no idea. We want someone else to install it (probably Lowes). Just estimates would be helpful. TIA!

Summary
The estimate of the cost would greatly depend on the type of tile you are using. Some people install the tile and carpet themselves, check with your local contractors, Home Depot, or Lowes for a price quote.
So What Happened?™
We got a couple of bids and narrowed it down between Lowe's and Master's Flooring. Man, those 2 places were in a bidding war for us. But in the end, we went with the little guy, Master's Flooring. We have been pleased.

I work for a company that specializes in this andif you are looking for great customer service than let us at least give you an estimate. A lot of it depends on the tile and carpet you pick out. ###-###-#### Paul Davis Remodeling you can ask for T. or Royce. Thanks and I hope to hear from you.

The cheap ceramic tile at Lowe's, installed, is about $4/sq foot.
I installed it myself for $1 a foot, and it really wasn't that bad. I used carpet tiles in the rest of my house - http://www.carpetbargains.com/ - I'd never use anything else again... my cat had an accident, I pulled up the tile, put it in the washing machine, and glued it back down.
I can tell you that a combination of carpet and tile for my 1500 sq foot house was quoted at $7000... I did it myself for less than $2000.

I recently had carpet laid on about 1200 square feet and it ran $4700. It was a medium grade, not low end and not high end, with a nice pad. The cost includes the labor. We got the carpet from The Home Depot Floor Store. We had a really good experience with that place.
We've had tile done in a couple different rooms in our house and have gone cheap in our kitchen and more expensive in our master bath. So it really depends on that one. But we paid about $1200 to have our kitchen and breakfast room retiled a few years ago and that includes demo on the previous tile floor. We got it from Carpet Mills. And our bathroom cost a whole lot more than that because we went with really nice tile from the Dal Tile show room and paid a professional to lay it for us. I think it cost around $3500 but we had a shower rebuilt and a bath tub surround tiled, etc. There's a lot more to it in a bathroom. And you may not be doing all of that. The quality difference in the two jobs is pretty visible. I'm just glad the 2 rooms aren't next to each other.
I hope that helps.

Here is the number to a friend of my husband's who owns his own company and does all flooring! He did the wood flooring and carpet in my house! His name is John Rocha, ###-###-####. You can tell him that you got a referral from Clint's wife off the web and he will give you a quote. Lowes is so much more expenseive.

Hi H.- It really will depend on what level of quality you want. I own a property preservation business and we recently quoted a 1500 sf carpet job at around 3000.00. (That is for a low end carpet and pad) My husband is a store mgr at Lowes and they always have great specials on flooring. You should go check it out- they will give you qoutes with no hassle. Take your measurements with you and they will send someone out to double check the sizes if you decide to purchase. When it comes to home renovations I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" Good Luck and have fun with it.

My husband would be happy to give you a free estimate...he does home remodeling. As far as carpet goes, we got a cheaper kind of carpet in our house we just sold, 2600sq ft for $4000. The was from Carpet One.

We just tiled our bathroom and put new carpet in 2 rooms. We got prices from Home Depot, a flooring store near Vista Ridge and ended up using Surplus Floors Outlet on I-35 between Valley View and Valwood. They didn't have as large a selection as the other places, but they had something that worked for us and kept us within our budget.

hi H.,
I don't know about carpet or tile, but we just installed maple wood floors in our entire house (1100 sq feet) for $1600. We did the labor ourselves. I wouldn't reccomend Lowes because it will be more expensive. Look around at different independent tile and carpet retailers in Austin. You can always find tile setters looking for side work.
good luck

hmmm depends on how you do it.....You can go to Home Depot or Lowe's to get an estimate and look around at the type of patterns ect compair shoping. If you have little ones might want to go all tile its easy to clean, last a loooong time .....
If you want to do it yourself, go to various tile stores and see what there. Sometimes you can get a real deal on discontinued floor.
In our case went with fux wood and food it at home depot it cost us about 400 dollers and we did it our selves one room at a time.
In the case of tile, unless you are carpenters or have that kind of backround sweet but if not trust me hire some one it takes a certin amount of know how to work with tile.
Hope this helps
