I have a white wig for halloween. I need to dye half of it black. Will Rit work? Has anyone ever dyed synthetic hair? Does it work?

What can I do next?

I'm a hairstylist and have dyed synthetic strands of hair using real hair color, but it doesn't always turn out a true color. The best thing to do, is rubber band a small piece of the wig somewhere where it isn't noticeable, and dye that to see how it will turn out. I don't know if rit will work though.

Since Halloween wigs are synthetic the dye has nothing to soak into so it would not likely work. I too would use the colored hair spray, it washes out if it doesn't work. If the costume is going to be seen from any distance and not right up next to it then perhaps making a wig from 2 different ones would work, I buy the kids wigs at Thrift stores and wash them very well first. It might be fun to combine some of them to see what the end result is. Just cutting along a seam then using needle and thread to whip them together would be simple.

If the hair is plastic then fabric dye won't work because it has to soak into the fiber. It will wash off plastic. Maybe hair dye or spray on hair dye? I know a lot about fabric dye and not much about hair dye, sorry.

I would use the colored hairspary. The dyes could go through it and color your own hair. At least the sprays are washable.

SOrry, I don't know. You could buy the halloween colored hairspray in black and just spray half. That way you can wash it off and still have a white wig for the next go round.
