How to decorate a bathroom for 2 boys and 2 girls?

I'm trying to come up with an idea for my children's bathroom, I want to totally redesign it. I have 2 boys and 2 girls so I want to do something unisex. Any ideas ladies?

What can I do next?

Summary

Most moms suggested to go for a unisex theme. Check out the article for other moms' ideas.

My dfaughter is 9 and was "so over the princess thing". We went with dolphins and a sea theme. Pretty neutral there.

My kids are 6,7,8 .I think a good idea for a bathroom for kids in that age range since they are all learning would be a school theme, maybe ABC`S & 123`S,+ - X,books, thier names on the walls, make frames from rulers, crayons, ect. An idea a little different.have fun!

First, who is this wonderful man? Do I know him? Second, I think you should set it up as a beauty shop and let Ethan give haircuts!

A beach theme is good for both boys and girls. Dolphins, fish, sea shells etc. There are many things out there at different stores that would go with a beach theme. I have dolphins in ours with sand hand prints on the walls that the kids made when they were little and the shower curtain has many different fish and a ocean theme. I alternate the towels as I bought both dolphin towels and towels with fish on them and liked them both so couldn't decide which I liked better. Also maybe a favorite cartoon character that all of your children like although you will probably be changing that theme in a few years as they outgrow it. There are several cheap ocean things at Dollar Tree, and the old time pottery has different pictured rugs. I got a nice big dolphin rug there for 7.00. you can get a dolphin or ocean theme calendar and laminate the pictures or just frame them with nice frames.

I remember a family from when I was a child their kids' bathroom had a neutral color on the walls and then there were hand and foot prints all over the walls...not sure if the hand and footprints belonged to the kids or if they were sponge/stamps but it was very cute.

My 2 year old loves my fish bathroom. We got a lot of the decor just from Wal-Mart or Target. My husband and I also put together some undersea life puzzles and then used puzzlesaver on them and framed them. It adds something of a personal touch. I have a friend who has a rubber-duck bathroom that is totally over-the-top. She had to hunt a bit for some of the pieces, but I think ducks are coming back in style, so it might be easier to find things now. I'd also add frogs and hot air balloons to the list of fun ideas. I've seen both, but I think the balloons migh be more difficult to find.

How about a fish/underwater theme?

I suggest BOZ the bear, go to bozthebear.com for an explination. It is christian themed and is targeted towards your kids' ages. My kids enjoy it a lot.

I personally really like the new line of monkeys out by Target...but watch out, there are actually 2 lines there!

Walmart had a really cute line out last year that wasn't too kiddy and was acceptable for adults as well...great colors in a light teal blue, red, yellow, orange, and lime...I got the shower curtain and several of the bath things like soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, etc. for my friend...The towels were even cheap and really nice...only $3.67 for a big bath towel...you can get them in solid colors or white with a colored strip across the bottom.

I'd also get some feedback from the kids...perhaps there is something that they are interested in that could be combined (i.e. zoo animals, farm animals, transportation, letters, etc.).

Hi L., When I lived in LA, I created a bath for a girl & boy that could grow with them. One whole wall was a beach with chairs & umbrellas seagulls, sailboats, driftwood, & done really muted. then I used primary colors for towels, hooks made out of boats & a little beach chair, primary striped curtain. Then when they got to 10 & 12, I did a bold blue & white striped curtain, striped ball hooks, & towels in cobalt blue & aqua. Then when they got into teens, We changed hardware to silver, white terry cloth curtain, seagreen & pale blue towels & large glass jars filled with shells the kids had collected. The beach mural stayed the same, I would do little touch ups like change stripes on umbrella from red to blue to aqua...The kids LOVED it & It really worked! Hope this helps.
