How to backfill a pool?

We just put in a 21 foot round pool with 54 in sides. They had to dig 25 inches to level the pool and I want to back fill it. Has anyone done this and if so did you tile and did you use pea stone or sand? If you can help it would be great.
Thanks
V. R.

What can I do next?

Summary

Some people use tile, some use stone and dirt. Contact your contractor for advice.

We had our put up years ago but they used pea stone and sand.

We used the sand and have not had any problems, we have had our pool for 2 years.

That was our weekend!!! LOL- We Just finished putting dirt all the way around the pool- it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and didn't take near as long as I thought- we are doing the dirt and then going to top it off with rocks as well. Good luck and have a ball with your pool!!!!

We didn't have to go down that deep but just backfilled it with dirt and then put rocks bordering the whole pool. My neighbor dug about as deep as you did and they also just backfilled with dirt. If it's an above ground I would think that would e fine. Unless you are putting a walk way around it then yes, use the layers of pea stone then sand to make the walkway level.

We had to dig about 2 ft. to level the pool 5 years ago. Sand on the bottom; dirt on the sides. We have a 27' x 54" round. Don't want to add any more rocks because, even now, small rocks in the sand or dirt will rear their ugly heads on the bottom (you just push them down gently when you find them). I don't even rock around pool, although I know others do. I just mulch, add flowers and put preen down to keep weeds away. We love our pool! Hope you do too!

We run a pool and spa business what are you looking to tile? Normally you tar the wall that is in the ground and then backfill with dirt. No sand no pea gravel. pool needs to be filled 4 wks before backfilling. It needs to settle first.

Any other questions let me know,
