Hi I'm 25, a mother of a 2 year old wonderful little boy. Ive got a friend in need of a baby sitter Mon - Fri for about 4-5 hours a day.She has a 3 1/2 year old and a 2 month old. How much should I charge her for watching her kids, it will be in my home.
She is starting a job as a waitress, and i don't want to charge her to much but don't want to cheat my self either. She said something about that her last sitter for just the one toddler she payed $100 a week. But also had a different job before she had to quit due to pregnancy. Do u think $100 will be too much for 4-5 hrs 5 days a week, or 2 little?

What can I do next?

I babysit my nephew 3 days a week 3 hours each day and get paid $100 a week, my nephew is 6 years old. A little bit of that money is gas money though..just to give you an idea. My brother and sister in law make decent money though.

I don't think thats too much at all. I pay my sitter that when she has my son for a full week all day which is during school holidays. She gets $70 during the school year because she takes my son 1 1/2 hrs after school. She has had him since he was nine weeks old so I personally don't think thats a lot.

my sister pays a sitter $30 per day for 2 kids. She only sends her kids to the sitter 2x per week though. She works part time.

I think that is very reasonable. Her in rochester MN I pay $50 per kid per day for in home daycare. My husband and I make ok money, but when we had both kids in daycare full time we were paying half of my salery just for daycare! I think it is very nice that you are willing and able to help her out. Maybe talk to her and find out if 100 a week will set her out to much or if that would be ok. You could charge less now and when she gets a little more esablished in her job you could charge more. Good luck!

I also babysit in my home. I have 2 boys: 5yrs & 16mo. I watch them 2 days a week, for 11 hours a day. I charge $65/day, which comes to roughly $3/hour per child. I would say that with one of the children being only an infant that I personally would charge about $125 for the week for both kids. I'd charge $25 per day per child for full time, so with this being part time, just cut it in half. Some people give me a hard time for charging so little, but sometimes that is the benefit of finding in-home childcare!
I'm sure others will have way different suggestions, but that's just my opinion based on my experience!

I like Rebecca's answer about also having her bring her own formula, diapers, etc. I don't think that you will really be able to negotiate a different rate once your friend is more established in her job. I just think that would be too awkward of a convesation for me personally. So make sure you are comfortable with whatever you decide to charge in the beginning. I think if she was paying $100 per week for the toddler that $125 sounds a little more reasonable for the addition of a 2 month old. Again, with the mom being a friend of yours, I would try to be VERY clear about your expectations, requirements etc before you start the job, you don't want to get into any arguements or have bad feelings over this later.

Whatever you two decide, get it in writing. You never know what could go wrong. I've had to many personal experiences where my friends would try to cheat me out of money (I know, some friends) for the helping them out like this. And make sure all of her rules are followed (like discipline, how many snacks and so forth) and your rules too are clearly outlined. Sorry to be such a downer.

I agree I think $100 a day is reasonable, that would be $20 per day. I don't think that is too much, and it's definitely lower than other places.

You could also have her bring her own snacks, food and lunch to save you from buying extra. Have her also supply diapers and formula.
