How Much Spotting Is TOO Much

Hi All,
I need some Momma-wisdom. I just learned my teen aged daughter (DD) is sexually active, much to my dismay.
To add to that, she and her b/f did not use birth control correctly. (doubling the condoms and using OLD ones).

In addition,to the above... they also had relations during my daughter's most fertile time. Have given her two home tests, one at Health dept, and then blood work at the pedi's office. Doc thinks she is pregnant based on body signs. Firm womb, and breast changes along with morning nausea, and her craving foods/eating habits changing.

Now, here's my question. DD started spotting. maybe a teaspoon per pad. five pads in all. three days and now nothing.

Wondering if she could still possibly be pregnant? If this was her cycle (normal for her is 5 days medium flow), it was NOT a normal period for her.

going to the ob~gyn tmw. but would like to hear others experiences? I have two VERY spazzed kids on my hands.

So What Happened?

Hi All,
Took DD to the ob~gyn and did blood work again. She is NOT pregnant. Starting her on the birth control shots. Not happy with that type of birth control but need to do it to keep this from happening again. Limited contact with boyfriend during eh week and supervised visits ONLY <I hear those snickers ;o)> on Friday nights.

So hopefully my plan will allow the kids to see each other in a more controlled way.

Thanks to all who wrote in. It really helped.

She could still be pregnant. I spotted with both of my pregnancies. I down right bled with my son, but he's 15 and perfectly healthy.
Just get her checked.
You should be able to find out tomorrow whats going on.
If she's NOT pregnant, hopefully this will scare the tar out of her and she'll find better ways of protecting herself.

I wish you the best. Let us know what happens.

Spazzed is normal as it should be in the teen years in the prospect of becoming young parents.
Yes, it is still possible that she is pregnant. I spotted with all three of my pregnancies enough to think I was having a period, or loosing a baby?
I became pregnant at 16, and these signs are bringing back the memories of being Spazzed as you call it. A very scarry but real time!
The OB-GYN is the place to go.
My heart goes out to you as the parent and to them as the possibility of parenting has approached them. No matter the outcome, there is a huge lesson in this either way. Guide them with love and understanding is the best advice I can give. My twins are now 28. My life is what I made it with much love and support from my family and freinds. I'm who I am today because of the choices I made then... it all depends on how they and those around them handle the choices made now... Best Wishes!
PS: I now work with a Teen Parent Support Group in our County as a coordinator and mentor.

Having spotting during implantation bleeding is very normal if she is pregnant. This is when the embryo attaches to the uterian wall. I had it with my first pregnancy but not my second. With my second pregnancy the ultrasound tech saw the blood pocket in my uterus and said that some peoples body absorbs it back but not to be alarmed if I did have spotting and that was at my 6 week mark. It normally occurs around the same time as a period would come. Home pregnancy tests are very accurate these days and a blood test is extremely accurate so you should already have your answer. Best wishes to you and your daughter.

When I had bleeding very early in my first pregnancy, the L & D nurse told me anything more than a pad (regular pad) in an hour then I needed to come in.

I will cross my fingers that this was a weird period for her if the tests are coming back negative. Are they coming back negative? I guessed this since you said the doc thinks she pg but you don't say for sure.

My cycle changed when I became sexually active but I was out of my teen years so I don't know if that would make any difference or not.

My daughter was pregnant while a senior in high school. She started spotting. Doctor said that was normal but then a week or so later, blood gushed and she had a very heavy period. She had spontaneously aborted.

I strongly suspect that she's still pregnant. This is a hard lesson for them to learn and really difficult for you. My heart goes out to you.

Um...blood test are supposed to be accurate but don't count on it. My sister-in-law had a blood test and it showed negative even though eventually it came back positive. She was on the depo shot so I don't know if that had any correlation or not. Also a cousin of mine was trying to get pregant and was on clomid. They did a blood test on her and told her she didn't even ovulate that month-she was so upset but then a few weeks later she went to take a pregnancy test before she re-started her round and guess what-yup pregnant so how come that didn't show up on the blood test if that is the most accurate?
All I am saying is that don't bank on that-I think you are just going to have to wait this one out within a few weeks it should show.

My brother's g/f can conceive like there's no tomorrow--even while on b/c. However, she miscarries just as often as well. It is very possible that she is, in fact, pregnant. It's also possible that she's got herself scared into thinking she's pregnant and her body is reacting (let's hope!). Stress can also control periods greatly. I would like to suggest that if things are normal at the ob/gyn, you wait a week or so and see what happens with her. If she continues, take another test. If that one comes back sketchy--get a blood test. Best of luck for you!
