How Much Formula Should My 8 Month Old Be Getting?

I am trying to figure out how much formula my 8 month old daughter needs to be getting each day. It is a struggle to get her to drink 24 ounces in a 24 hour period. It doesnt matter if its in a bottle or a cup, she just isnt interest and she absolutely LOVES solids. If I stopped giving her bottles all together it wouldnt bother her one bit, but since that is most certainly is not an option, im trying to make sure she is getting enough. Right now, she gets an eight oz bottle in the morning, which she will drink btwn 6-8 oz, then 6 oz at 12 and 4 which she sometimes eats it all, but usually its only like 3 or 4 oz each time, and finally i make an 8 oz one before bedtime, which she eats like 6-8 of it. On average I would say she is getting 20-24 oz a day. Any one had this problem or is she getting enough now that she is getting older and eating more big people food?? Thanks for any advice!!

What can I do next?

Ok, I know this might sound weird, but my daughter is 8 months old and I had the same problem. I flavor the formula with a little bit of juice, or put some jelly on a spoon and stir it in the formula for 2 or 3 seconds. It gives it a very faint sweet taste, and she can't get enough!!! She now takes five 7 ounce bottles a day of formula, plus two 4 ounce bottles of baby juice, and she's really happy about it.

She might be full!!! WHen my daughter went from jsut bottle to solids and bottle she started drinking less of her bottles to! SHe would ahve a 6 oz bottle in the morning And a 4 oz bottle in the after noon and then an 8 oz bottle before bed but she would also have about 3 jars of baby food during the day too! SO id say if she seems full and content with how much shes eating i wouldnt worry..and as long as shes getting nutrition from her jar food i wouldnt be too worried about it too much.... a baby will eat when and if she gets hungry..i am now having a problem with my almost 2 year old about not wanting to eat really anything beause shes too busy doing other things!!! so your daughter will probably go through phases like that too!! GOOD LUCK! I hope i helped you!

It's normal that as your baby gets older, she will eat more solids and less formula. She needs the extra calories and energy as she is more active. I breastfed my baby, and by 9 months, he was not interested in breastfeeding at all. At that point, the doctor told me just to put him on whole cow's milk.

Both of my boys did the same thing. Once they started on jar food they wanted their bottle only in the morning and at before bed. My second was off of his formula by the time he was 10.5 months old. He just wouldn't take it anymore. I figure I wasn't going to force them to drink it if they didn't want it. I would just suggest integrating more solids if she is able to.

J.,
In my opinion she does need more fluid intake, maybe juice or water instead of formula. Especially since she is eating as well as you are saying. She may be wanting to wean herself, try giving her milk or something besides formula.
I have to say this but wondering why giving up the bottle isn't an option?
I had my daughter weaned at 1 yr - if she isn't wanting the bottle try sippy cups and see if she will drink from them better.
Sometimes its just that they are ready for the next step.
Especially if she has teeth coming in.

My 9 1/2 month old doesn't like formula & since I had to wean him due to my illness a couple of weeks ago, I am having to force feed him formula. I mix some of the powdered formula in with his baby food at every feeding and I try to give him the liquid formula twice a day, but he doesn't take it very well. Have you tried mixing the powder in with her baby food? You just need to remember to give her a cup of water with it everytime so the powder gets diluted with the water she's drinking. Also, I read that they should not be getting more than 24 oz a day, not that they HAVE TO get 24 oz a day. Good luck!!
