How Many Times Have You Been Married?

Updated on December 19, 2013

Just curious. I was reading the tattoo post and it seems like many out there have had several marriages. No judgement here - just curious.

I've only been married once. Did it in my early 30s (he was late 30s) and I think we both sewed our wild oats before we met each other. We've been married 10 years.

What can I do next?

Once...for almost 20 years. We had been HS sweethearts, broke up in college, then got back together at the 10 year reunion. Thought it was destiny! We separated in 2003...divorced after.

Was engaged to a man I truly loved with all my heart (we had dated for almost 7 years...lived together for almost 5), but he died in April.

And no, I have no tats!

Veruca may be on to something!!

I actually read an article advocating 3 marriages...one for that 'romantic notion'...one for having kiddos...and the third for older years and companionship. If you are lucky enough to fine that in ONE marriage, then the contract would come up for renewal every 7 years or so!

Interesting concept in any case!!

Best!!

Only once. We dated almost two years. Because we both came from divorced households, we felt strongly that we should live together before marrying. Best decision ever- we married the following year! 12 years later, we are still together and still happy.

I'm on my first of three marriages. I don't know what the other two will be like, but that's my plan.*

We got married in our 30s. Didn't really sow any oats, because we started dating at 18. He's the only guy I've ever been with and we will celebrate our 15 year anniversary next August (together 27 years total). Still wouldn't tattoo his name on my body.

(*that's a joke…)

We have been married 32 years, Seems impossible it is that long. It has gone by so fast.

I recall my father trying to give me marriage advice once. I reminded him he has been married 3 times and even adding up all of those years, I have still been married longer than him.. He still gets a kick out of that..

FYI, His current wife, who I adore is actually younger than me..

No tattoos planned for any of us.

Well thanks Mommasource/pedia for loosing my original post.

I have recently celebrated my 42nd anniversary to the same person. We met when he went into the service and we corresponded for about two years before we got married. We were in our mid 20s.

We have had our ups and downs as every couple. Our last five years or so have been a challenge and a change due to hubby's illnesses. I almost lost him on three separate occasions and the good fairy wants to keep him around to repent and to make amends. Our relationship has deepened due to the illnesses. We laugh and joke a lot more but we are really and truly friends. It has been a lot of hard work and we have both been willing to put in the long hours it takes to make it work.

I want a tattoo but not of hubby's name. It was a butterfly on a rose. But I can't get it where I wanted it due to surgery.

Have a great holiday season.

Three.
First time I was 19 - old enough to be legal, young enough to be stupid. Didn't realize that I was nothing but a means to a green card. Left when he threw a tv at me.

Second time I was 35 - should have been old enought o recognize trouble signs but we had been together so long as a couple that I thought getting married would fix the problems we were having. It made them worse. Him trying to over-ride my parenting of my child (not his child - she was in diapers when we started dating), him pushing me to convert to his religion, him insisting that I use hormonal birth control even though it was wrecking my body, because HE didn't like condoms - lots of control issues.

Last time I was 45 - he was an alcoholic. Was trying to get sober, but kept failing. He finally quit trying, and I put him out of my house.

Never again will I get into a committed relationship. FWB's from here on out.

My husband is my ONLY husband. We've been married for 15 1/2 years. Still if I ever got a tattoo, it would not ever be with my husband's name nor would it have any of my childrens' names or faces. Word tattoos and face tattoos are generally hideous and tacky and are too easy to be done incorrectly.

Just once for us. My husband and I started out as friends in jr high school. We went on our first date on Christmas Eve in 1988 and have been together ever since. We celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary last month. He has a tatoo with our names and wedding date on his arm. I do not have any tatoos but if I could have one it would include our names as well as our girls names. I think it's fairly safe to say at this point neither of us is going anywhere.

I do think many people today jump into marriage (and name tattoos) too soon.

Peace and Blessings,

twice.
i had my dream wedding when i was 28 with the "man of my dreams", we had the beautiful home and so forth. the day after our 1 year anniversary (we dated for a year and half before we married) he came home and said i want a divorce, i have never loved you. i tried for a few months to make it work, sadly it did not. we separted and were officially divorced about 6 months later.

i met my now hubby when i was 30 (oops aged myself put 32 first lol) and he was 39 (he had never been married) we seriously dated for 6 months, got married, got pregnant and then moved in together. (he worked out of town alot and he would stay at my house and he still had apartment) i said um we should live together. lol. so we moved out of my roommates house and rented a little house. flash forward we just celebrated 12 years yesterday.

i never thought i would find love again after what my ex did but as my hubby and i tell people. we are perfectly imperfect.

edit again: my hubby always jokes that he was not thinking marrying me on the 16th of dec because he has our anniversay, then my birthday (the 21st) and then christmas. lol

Twice. Husband #1 was high school sweetheart, we dated for 5 years, engaged for 2, married for 2. He decided he didn't want to be married anymore and just left. We had no children together. Hubby number two and I are celebrating 15 years of marriage next year. Hard to believe we have been together for that long! we have two beautiful boys and are in it for the long haul. Much like Mom2kCK, I've been married ONCE to him-for 11 years and counting, but I'm his 4th marriage! I usually tell people I'm the 3rd marriage because I don't "count" one of his marriages-ha! ha! He knew what he DIDN'T want and I knew qualities I was looking for and thought it was someone who had never been married before or had any kids...BUT he needed someone strong enough, sexy enough and classy enough-which I AM. I'm definitely the best wife he's had and he knows it, too-Marriage is hard work!! Interesting question...

First marriage for both of us, married 10 years, but we each came into the marriage with a child from a previous relationship.

Of course I went into this marriage thinking it was forever but it will probably not work out that way. Barring some miracle, we will likely go our separate ways when the kids are grown. If we split before then, I don't imagine that I would get into a serious relationship or re-marry while my kids are young. I never want to blend a family again, but if I do find myself starting over in 10 years, I do hope to find a truly good man to spend the rest of my life with. I like being a wife, just not to a man who doesn't really want to be anyone's husband.

Just once. We got married very young and twice we have been on the verge of divorce. The most recent time found us in therapy that we continued for almost a year. I am so glad we stuck out the hard times, we had to grow up and learn to be together effectively, but now all that hard work and time has paid off so wonderfully. We celebrated 14 years this past may.

Clearly I can not say for sure, but when I was looking at getting divorced I was convinced I would never bother getting married again, it just seemed like too much work. We have finally gotten to a place were things feel easier, more comfortable.

Blessed Be
