Hello, we just recently moved to Evanston and I saw online that the school my son will attend is Dawes. Was just wondering if anyone can tell me what they think about Dawes or how is the public school sys here. Thanks

So What Happened?

hello everyone,
thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. I went to the D65 website and found tons of useful info. I do have to report that my son will actually be going to LINCOLN and NOT Dawes. But I was actually able to find out lots of info about Lincoln as well through this website, so we are going to try it out and pray for the best. Thanks again to all of you, I truly appreciate it, you helped ease a large part of my anxiety about him going to a new school. sooo thanks a million guys....

I don't know too much about Dawes except they do have TWI (two-way immersion for learning Spanish), if you are interested in that. All-in-all, we've had a positive experience with District 65, despite the superintendent (sorry, bitter right now about a change in principals and the hiring of an interim principal which has resulted in 3 of our great teachers quitting). It's the PARENTS (and teachers!) that make D65 a great place. Check out the Dawes website to see what is going on- it's a wealth of information. You can link to it through the D65 website.

Hi A.J.
I encourage you to go to the illinois board of education website. There you will be able to find school report cards for the Evanston schools. It will tell you specifically how grade levels did on high stakes tests and will even tell you how much the teachers make and how many kids are considered special needs and much much more.

I currently have a daughter who is in the 4th grade at Dawes. I have a 8th grader who attended dawes through her elementary school years and is now attending Chute Middle School (also and excellent school). Ms. Bradley is a wonderful Principal and the school has a lot to offer. My 4th grader is in the TWI Emissions program and enjoys learning Spanish as a second language. The Dawes community has a wonderful group of parents who are friendly. I currently reside outside the Dawes school zone and receive a permissive transfer for my daughters to continue to attend Dawes. I am an alumni. Dawes is an excellent school. Hope to meet you one day.
