How Does the Name HUGO Sound?
Hello!
We will have a boy at the end of July and it's a lot more difficult to find a great boy's name than a girl's. We happen to be of French origin, so we like to pick French names for our children that can be pronounced in English too. We don't want to rely on people we tell face to face because sometimes they won't tell you what they really think of a name.
So Mamas, please tell me, how does Hugo sound to you?
Thanks for your help.

My son's name is Hugh, the Irish version of Hugo. I think Hugo is a fantastic name and it works in many languages. As with any name, though, if you ask a bunch of people you will get mixed reviews. I particularly like this name because it is not common in the US.
There are many people, like me, who have never seen the show LOST. When he is old enough for that association to matter, that character will no longer be in the collective memory.
What do YOU think of the name?

I really like it. It does happen to be the guy from Lost, but I like him too. :) I imagine it's going to be a pretty popular name now.

It actually reminds me more of an Hispanic name....I have a few guy friends named Hugo, but they are all Hispanic. My first thought was the big guy from Lost though....not sure if this helps, its just my first thought when you posted the name. Congrats on the baby and any name you choose.

Hi F.,
I love the name. It's strong and masculine. That's missing in many of our little boys these days.....I don't watch Lost so my mind didn't go there at all....
Congratulation on your little one whatever you decide to name the little man!

H is sometimes silent in different languages. Would he be called Ugo in some places. How about Joshua or Jacob.

that sounds like a Latin (Hispanic) name. not really french.
ps yes it is a french name as well but if the child will be raised in the States he will be taken of hispanic descent. i know of a french writer, hugo... but can't remember the last name but his books are awesome. i assume in french the H wouldn't be pronounced. how about Pascal :) (or Pasqual)
