How Do You Organize Your Flip Flops?

After living in our current house for 3 years and never having organized our closet, even to begin with, I am seeking creative advice for storing/organizing flip flops. I bought the shelves for our "other" shoes (not as many of these kind), but it would take a hundred shelves for all the flip flops we have floating around our closet! Just thought I would pick your brain!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a peice of cloth that I glued to a wood board and nailed to a wall in my closet. Before glueing the cloth on the wood I sewed little girl hair bands (the kind with two balls on the end and metal in the middle) and I wrap the bands around the toe separator of the flip flops and hang them on the wall ... works for fancier sanal like shoes as well and does no damage.

However they land in my closet when I kick them off.

I bought these wooden shoe cabinets.
Big Lots had them for a short time a few years ago.
I love them. I bought two.
They have 12 cubbies and sit in my closet like a piece of furniture.
I put a pair of shoes in each cubby.
Some shoes are small so I can put 2 pairs in one cubby.
I can fit quite a few flip flops in each cubby.
I love these and haven't seen them since.
You could probably try a closet organizer store.

I only own one pair of flip flops! But what I do for organizing shoes is hang one of those pocket organizers on the back of the closet door. We even have one on the back of the closet door by our front door bc it is handy for holding mittens and hats and scarves in winter.

We have a shoe rack for regular shoes. Flip flops and water shoes go in heavy duty plastic bins that slide under our mudroom bench.

Hawaii, is Flip-Flop land.
Everyone here must have at least a dozen pairs, each.

Buy... the type of "shoe" storage that you hang up on the wall.
It has plastic pockets on it.
It can hold like 20 pairs.
We have that, 1 for each person.
AND it takes up less space, because it is on your wall.
You do NOT have to hang it over your door. We do not. We simply nailed it with hooks, on our wall.

I have a shoe organizer that I use. I put the flip flops together, heel of one to the toe of the other the feet sides to each other and slide them in the strap of the other shoe. Then I stand them up on their side and put them in my shoe organizer. I can fit about 8 pairs on the bottom three shelves. I have about 20 pairs myself. And this is after thinning out my collection. I buy flip flops like other women buy heels. :) Here is the organizer I have.

In the past, I have organized my flip flops in 3 different ways.

#1- in a basket in the closet. I don't think this will work for you because you will have to dig around for the mates and that can be frustrating when you have a lot of shoes.
#2- In an over the door shoe organizer.- Since flip flops are thin, I was able to put both shoes in the pair in one slot, so I was able to fit 2 times the amount of shoes.
#3- Under the bed- Because you have a lot of flip flops, for this to work, you will have to make sure that they are placed in a neat manor. At the end of the day, you can't just kick off your shoes and slide them under the bed.

I used to own a LOT of flip flops in high school and the early college years, but I grew out of it after I got tired of having to constantly keep them organized or live with flip flop mountain. I would suggest going through them and HONESTLY taking a look at your inventory. You might be able to pair it down and then the organization would be a little easier.

I like keeping shoes in baskets.
But of course, no one in my house (family of five) has more than two pairs of flip flops at a time!
I find the less you have, the easier it is to take care of ;)

Well, I have all mine (just about every color of the rubber Old Navy type) standing upright in a bin that is just about as deep as the flip flops.

My cousin used to rubber band her pairs together, and kept hers standing upright in a plastic tub.

I've also seen them in the over-the-door organizers, you could probably fit at least 2 pairs in each slot...

They also make those hanging fabric shelf/boxes that you put in your closet for folded items, etc. that you could use for the flip flops as well, if you have the hanging room in your closet. Ikea sells a nice variety of sizes of those.

Interested to see if you get any cool ideas. We have too many, and I'd like a better storage solution. (Can't do the over-the-door thing because we have our dress shoes in that and don't have any other free doors!)

If it were me, I'd donate flip flops to the Salvation Army. How many pairs do you need? We each have two...one casual, one fancy. I have a small plastic basket that I sit them all it, pointing up.
