How Do You Get Rid of WARTS?

Two of my kids have warts on their hands that we can't seem to get rid of. We first tried the doctor's advice of using a wart stick (looks like chap stick) and then covering with duct tape. That didn't work, so we next tried Dr. Scholls Freeze Away and that didn't work. What has worked for you?

So What Happened?

Compound W band-aids worked really well to get rid of the warts quickly. The only problem with the band-aids is if the wart is on a paricularly sweaty part of the hand. One of my daughters had a hard time getting them to stick.

My daughter had a wart on her foot, we used a wart remover and then would file it down every day. It eventually went away but we had to be quite harsh to it. We tried the first 6 weeks but i wasnt harsh enough on the wart and didnt file like I was supposed to because I didnt want to hurt my daughter. We went back to the doctor and he told us that we hadnt done anything with the wart and it was still very protected by it's own capsule. You really have to get to the bottom of the wart. So we tried it again and got a new foot file and just filed away. It can hurt them a little and it's terrible but the wart disappeared very soon after that. You really have to get down to the core of the wart. Warts are viruses and you will probably battle with them until their bodies build up an immunity to them and that can take a very long time. Good luck.

*Just remembered, my doctor said the more you irritate the wart, the faster the body will react. It gets the immune system going and help clear up the wart faster, but it still can take some time.

I've been working on mine as well. I went to the doctor a billion times and it shrunk it and I stopped going. The cost even with medical insurance is horrible!! Back in the 1980's I remember having them on my hands and feet and the doctor would use the wand and freeze it off and it took one treatment and now days they have it in a can and you have to come back again and again and again and again...

I'm working on mine with the $18 or so dollar product that you freeze it off yourself. There's two out there. Keep using it and since mine are on my feet I use the skin blade which scrapes off the hardened skin (Walgreen's may have both). You may want to use a hard stone they sell or try the blade that comes with a handle to get the dead skin off and do treatment again. I wait about two weeks in between treatments and after the two weeks I scrape the old skin off or use the rough stone and do the treatment again.

Mine are almost gone but it takes several months. I'd give it 6-8 months on your own to get rid of it. The doctor did treatments every 3-4 weeks and I was going for about a year and she still couldn't get rid of it completely.

Oh, I remember back in the day where they inject you with novacaine and then either burned it off and in my case they used a scalpel and cut it out. That was the best and fastest. Not sure if they do that still.

The thing with warts is that they take a long time to go away. I've used Compound W with my son and applied it twice a day. Duct tape also works, but you have to put a new strip on every day or every time it falls off, so it can get inconvenience. These methods do work--but can take up to 12 weeks. Don't give up!

I agree with the different advice here...actually going to take it for my own kids who both have warts on their hands as well.

just wanted to add, my son had tehm on his feet, even at his toenail area partially under his nail. We used a liquid med(i think compound w) and duct tape which worked on the big one. He had someothers and just as we were to go to his appointment for them they just suddenly weren't there anymore. The doc said our bodies will eventually fight them off themselves, but you just never know when it will happen.

Also i have tried the Freeze Off stuff and it hasn't doe anyhting. is is because I haven't got the protective top off of teh wart?

There is a bandaid that has the wart remover on it. It will actually burn the wart off. It does work, but you have to be very careful.

It's called Compound W (one step pads)

The only thing that worked the 1st time, was going to the dermatologist and having it frozen off. It was gone quickly and with very little pain.

Hi T.

When my son had warts on his feet I tried everything too but what finally worked for me was the duct tape. I would just wrap the tape around his wart every afternoon after school and take it off in the morning. It took awhile (maybe a few weeks) but eventually the warts pulled right off when I removed the tape. Sorry I don't have anything better for you but I hope this helps.
