How Do You Get Rid of Eczema on Toddler's Scalp?

My two year old has had flaking of the scalp for the last 4 weeks. I see her scratching sometimes and there are a few red areas. I haven't changed her hair products recently: she has used the same detangling hair spray and shampoo for over a year now. I know that toddlers do not usually get dandruff, and I am assuming that this is eczema since she has had it over various spots on her skin since she was about 6 weeks. My question is how do I get rid of this, or at least make it a little better?

What can I do next?

First talk to your pediatrician, next I would say use lots of lotion and sent free soaps. If she does have eczeme you would need to stay away from scented things, and use chemical free things.

Hey doc,
I think that Dr. Bruce West is the best resource- google him- these skin problems are improper digestion-are you nursing? then it would be something that you are eating- possibly lack of B vits- I think that is the most common- or something you are having difficulty digesting-
check him out- and you'll have your answer.
Something topical will only be treating the symptom, not the underlying cause.
best, k

I had a cousin who got a weird form of cradle cap when he was 2. Take your daughter in to see her doctor and have it checked out. But I agree with the bath response, baths every couple of days is alright. I have to do that with my son because his skin dries out. For a good scent free lotion try Aveeno baby. It's the best I've found so far.

My ped rec'd Selsun Blue (dandruff shampoo) - you can also try Aveeno shampoo/body wash combo. Don't bathe her every day - once or twice a week should be enough, otherwise the itchy rash will drive her crazy! Good luck!
