Hello Mama's

I am asking qquestion for a co-worker. She said her fridge had a strong foul smell and after cleaning it out discovered old brocolli in one of her favorite tupperware containers. She has tried numerous ways to try and get out the smell.

-boling the tupperware :/
-vinegar
-vinegar and water
-vinegar and baking soda

Do you have any suggestions that I can share?

What can I do next?

I just did the same thing - it didn't work. I set the clean and open containers outside in the sun for 2 days. Worked great.

I would toss it and get a new one.

I never keep plastic containers that have had something go bad inside them. They cant be sanitized like glass containers.

fill with water, slice a lemon and put it all in - then pop in the microwave for as long as the tupperware can stand it.

As for the baking soda - did she cover the inside surface with it and leave it for a few days? At Costco you can buy a huge box of baking soda (2 lbs maybe?) for less than $5. Fill it with the baking soda and leave for a week.

If that doesn't work just ditch it. I know tupperware isn't cheap - but you can get decent rubber maid containers at WarMart for much less.

We had the same problem with our dishwasher.. having tried many things, including vinegar, we then read several items on the net that said, try "Lemonade" Kool-aid (the powder) and gotta say.. it did work... I don't drink it, but as for its use on our dishwasher.. it seems to have taken the smell out... Maybe you can buy some and let the Tupperware soak in it overnight and then see if that works..
Also... You could wet the Tupperware and then sprinkle comet in it (again, let it stand overnight) and see if that does the trick..

good luck

If vinegar and baking soda hasn't worked? I can't think of anything else other than straight bleach and let it set for 24 hours.

Good luck!
