How Do I Start Potty Training??? - Amarillo,TX
I am a first time mom to a 28 month old little boy. He tells me when he's pottied and he's even used the potty seat at the sitters once before. I am totally clueless on how to even start potty training him at home. We've got new undies that he picked out and he's got no problem with sitting on the big potty, but he just sits on his new little potty at home and do anything. He sits there an jumps up after about 10-15 seconds. Please help!!! I want to get this thing rolling. He's showing all the signs that he's ready.

let him show you when he's ready to move forward. maybe take a book into the potty and read it to him, say post lunch. maybe by the time the book is done, magically he's pottied and you can reward him. do it at times that you know he's likely to need to go (first thing in the am, before lunch, after lunch, same with nap, same with dinner, same with bath, and then before bedtime). do it casually once or twice a day at first, then add it a bit more if he responds well. he's very young for a boy to train, so be thankful if he does! both of my boys were over 4.
yes you have to wait till he's ready! don't force a child to learn. and the 3 day book is a crock of hooky if that is your only method. it's a beginning method at best. heck i wouldn't waste my time or money on it. seriously. after 2 boys i went thru all the methods, and trust me them being ready is the best one of all. then it will just click on it's own.

I potty trained my daughter at 28 months and my son at 24 months using the 3 day potty training guide. You can get the e-book online and it really works. Three of my friends have used with their children and all three were potty trained in three days. The only think to remember is don't use diapers or pull ups ever. He will have a 15 or more accidents the first day so buy plenty of underwear. The second day gets a little better, but you will be ready to give up (don't). By the third or fourth day (like with my son) something just click and they start going. Most reponses you get will say wait until they are ready. Neither of my children nor my friends children showed any readness signs and all did great.

Have his big brother go Pee on a tree or shrub and tell the little one to go do it with his brother. THen put him in underwear. Then go to telling him to go in the potty. THat's what we did. You only then have to break the habit of peeing in the front yard instead of the back yard. LOL!
Good luck,

I don't have boys, but my mom and sisters always used Cheerios in the toilet. Give them something to aim at and make it a game. It worked for them. They actually make targets you can put in the toilet, but Cheerios are cheaper and there is a good chance you already have them in your home. Also, their boys watched Daddy go potty all the time so they could see how to do it. I also heard a good way for little boys is to let them run around the house naked.

I've never potty trained a boy...get to learn with the second child due in November. Anyway. I learned just not to stress out over it. They'll pick up on it. I've heard family members talk about several of the methods used and they worked fairly well. I have also heard day care providers talk about playing superman on the potty. Lay them across the potty with their peepee pointed down and tell them to fly and potty. Good Luck and thanks for all the advise in advance.
