How Do I Shower at Night and Not Look Greasy the Next Day?

Hello ladies!
Now that summer is coming we are getting busier and I am running out of time during the day. I have 2 girls (2 and 3 1/2) so my mornings are busy. Our days are filled with outside play, gardening and getting dirty. By the time dinner is over, we all need a bath or shower. I can't take my showers at night because by the morning my hair is greasy looking and it drives me nuts until I wash it. Is there any other option besides wash my hair in the morning and my body at night? Thanks! :)

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your responses! I tried showering last night and didn't scrub my roots, only conditioned the ends and completely dried my hair before bed. This morning was much better than usual! I have tried the baby powder in the past but it is only around my face that gets greasy looking and the baby powder doesn't seem to work. My next step will be to change shampoo. Thank you so much for everyone's responses...truly a wonderful group of women!! :-)

I completely blow dry my hair before bed - if I don't it is greasy looking the next day.
Good luck!

I read an article by the top salon in our metropolitan area on washing hair. His recommendation was to get a good lather & then put shampoo on next to the scalp. But don't scrub. Leave it on for a few minutes to allow the shampoo to do it's work. Then rinse and continue.

The scrubbing activates the oil glands, but the soaking doesn't. Since I started this, I've been able to go from shampooing every day to needing to wash my hair about every 5 days. (YMMV) It's healthier for your hair & you can still wet & style each day until you need to wash.

Are you using conditioner in your hair? If you are, only use it on the part of the hair not covering your scalp. Sounds like you produce enough on your own to keep that part moisturized naturally.. The parts that then hang past your chin or at the last couple of inches may need conditioner.

When I just need to wash my hair... I just wash it in the laundry sink.
And I can do that any time, not just shower time. And its quicker.

You might also try putting on a hat to hide your hair.
You might also try blow drying your hair.. even if dry and not washed, does fluff it up.
And as the previous poster said, always dry your hair before bed.

Or, get those dry shampoo products... it comes in a spray can. Or try find one online.

Just something funny... my Hubby gets oily head upon waking too and showers in the morning. But he has no hair, as his head is trendily buzz shaved real short. But he still has an oily head upon waking. Even my daughter told him that. LOL But he'd probably be aghast I told you all that. LOL ooooops!

good luck,
Susan

I know a few people may have mentioned this but my friend was complaining of a very similar problem. I told her to make sure that she was using the correct shampoo, obviously you do not want extra moisturizing if you tend to have oily hair. Then make sure that you are letting it set a little before rinsing off. Last make sure that you are only putting a dime size amount of conditioner in your hands and only put the conditioner on the very ends of your hair. Just as someone else said, you are probably producing enough oil in your hair to cover the top of your head. You may even be lucky enough not to need any conditioner.

Good Luck!

Your hair gets greasy overnight? Is it because it looks flat? Try not putting conditioner on your scalp. I don't know how you style your hair, but personally, I love the way my hair looks after I sleep in it but my hair is long and layered. Maybe you need a new haircut that would look good not needing styling immediatly before you go out?

i totally had the same issue and it was as easy as switching my shampoo! i used pantene, but i switched to Suave professionals. i love it AND i save money. i think pantene (and some other products) create too much build-up that can weigh your hair down and allow more dirt and oil to linger. i now use the moisturizing in the winter and the vibrant shine the rest of the year. also blow-drying completely before you go to bed helps a lot. i also to the conditioning trick - only on the ends and let it sit for a minute before rinsing.

I heard of a product on the "Today Show" that looks interesting; it is a spray called "Psssssst" or "Psssss" and it "shampoos" your hair without water. Maybe check that out! :)

Make sure you are using a shampoo for your hair type and skip the conditioner and other products. Buy a thing of baby powder. Put a little in your hair roots when your hair is dry--soaks up the grease. I have been straightening my hair for years and doing this to get my hair to go a couple days between washes. It takes like an hour to straighten it and no way do I have time to do that everyday! Cheap and works well =)

I've been showering at night since the birth of my 2nd...and I now have 3. 4, 2 & 6 months.
What I find helpful is to fully let my hair dry before I go to bed. I actually blow it dry as I would for the day. (My hubby thinks I'm crazy to do my hair before bed-lol) But it minimizes doing anything in the morning. Sometimes if I need to I'll take a flat iron to it just to touch it up. I don't have issues w/ it looking greasy just overnight so I agree maybe you need to switch up the products you are using. My hairdresser actually says not to wash w/ every shower, personally I can't b/c I need the conditioner as I have the opposite problem as you w/ dry dry hair! Or even change the fabric of your pillowcase. I've heard that satin pillowcases are better for hair. Cotton works best for me. I suppose you could wash your hair in the AM after a night time shower, but that's somewhat defeating the purpose of saving time- isn't it??
Other tips if you must shower in the morning are to get up ealier then the kids or allow them some "busy" time while you quickly shower. TV or keep specific toys hiden & break em out while you shower- it's keeps the kiddos intriqued long enough to shower!! lol
Good luck!

Put alittle bit of baby powder in your hair mostly on the scalp and let it set for awhile. If you can still see the baby powder use a blow dryer. This works for me when I am in a hurry and don't have time to style my hair. It gives it a fresh look
