How Do I Know If My Son Has a Milk Allergy?

My daughter use to get them all too. I was afraid to change her diaper in public sometimes because it looked so bad. She isnt allergic to milk, or any food that I am aware of. Now that she is potty trained, she hasnt had them since. Once in a while my 23 month old gets one like it too. I know its not too much juice or fruit, because I only give them a recommended amount everyday (fruit is very expensive for us, so we use it sparingly). My doctor didnt worry about it, but if you are concerned, call yours.

When my son has had diaper rash I give him baths in baking soda, it really helps take it away. Sorry I can't be much help with anything else but I hope this helps.

He might be allergic if the reaction are happening with in the hour or so he has the milk. The red 'pimple-type rash' could be hives and that is how the body could react if allergic to somthing.

Also tell your doctor, you might be able to get some tests done (not sure age limits) but I think the one blood test they will for sure do if the doctor thinks it is an allergic reaction.

Did he have any problems when he was a baby w/bms? Are his BM's hard and is he straining? Does this happen after he drinks milk or milk products? Sounds to me like milk may not be agreeing with him. My daughter has been having problems with milk ever since she was a baby. She has been on Soy Formula and now she is on Soy milk. I would call your pedicatrition and ask them what they want you to do. In the mean time I would see if it happens after he drinks milk and milk based things. If it does, I would go out and try him on Soy Milk. With my daughter she gets red bumps on her body and it is from drinking regular milk or milk based things like a milk shake or ice cream. She loves Cheese so that really does not help lol! I hope you can figure it out. It sounds like a reaction to milk or a heat rash! Good luck!

Hi A., I'm just wondering what ended up happening with the milk thing. I was looking for a request on milk intolerance and ran across yours, even though its dated. My 13 month old started getting loose, smelly stools and nasty rash when we switched from milk-based formula to whole milk. When I went back to formula, went away. Tried milk one more time and symptoms came back. Doc says its not an allergy becuase if it were she would have more "allergy symptoms" and she was OK with the formula. He says keep formula for a couple more months and then re-intro milk. I'd love to know what happened with your kiddo. It would be nice to get off the formula! Thanks.

Sounds like he has a yeast rash to me. Acidophilus in his diet, along with something for yeast (like Monistat or foot cream) on his behind should help clear it up. Ask your doctor, but he'll more than likely prescribe Nystatin if it is a yeast rash, and that won't clear it up.

I doubt its a milk allergy if it comes and goes. My osn has a milk protein allergy triggered by formula (he was given formula against my wishes in the hospital) and he has severe eczema, 'allergy shiners' (dark circles under his eyes) when he has too much dairy.

but anything is possible, however form your description, it sounds like a yeast rash and it won't clear up with diaper cream, and it won't clear up by waiting it out.
