Hotel Housekeeping

Friday evening we went to Disney and stayed at a resort there. Well it was very late when we got checked in. Well I took my daughters shoes off and left them on the bed. When we were leaving I put my kids in the car and texted my husband to grab my bag and her shoes off the bed. Well he didn't grab her shoes. And didn't realize it til we got home that evening. I called and they said no one turned them in and to call back today and talk to housekeeping. Well still they haven't been turned in. I KNOW we left them but isn't housekeepers supposed to turn stuff in? And is there anything I can do? They were not cheap Payless shoes, I spent a good 40$+ on them and they were only worn once. Who do I talk to about this? Please no "well it's your fault blah blah" I KNOW we left them I'm asking who I speak with and if I can get this resolved.
Added: they were NOT worn out shoes they were BRAND new sketcher twinkle toes

So What Happened?

Shoe crisis has been averted! Apparently house keeping at said resort doesn't do their job very well! The guests who checked in AFTER us found them under the edge of the bed. Along with some dirty underwear and sock from what they have told me! Ewwws

Just keep calling and POLITELY asking housekeeping. Those resorts are HUGE and it may take a while for them to KNOW that they have them.

I have been in the hotel business for many years. Our housekeepers are the most honest girls and have even taken things from the trash in case it fell in there by accident. We always notify the guest of anything we find and send it to them if they want. You need to talk to the head of housekeeping and let them know and then ask them to call you in a couple days of talking to the girl that cleaned the room. And yes they have records of who cleaned or stripped the room. If you do not get a call back or if they call and then say they were not found call the general manager and write a followup letter and enclose a picture of the shoes and copy of the reciept if you have it. This should not be tolerated. Most girls make pretty good tips if they are good. And management should compensate you if they do not "turn up".

Generally, IME, hotels are pretty good about returning items left behind.
Our rule? MOM does the final sweep through!

I'm sorry. I know what it's like to forget something and want it back!

If you checked out on Saturday - wait until later today or Monday. Call and ask for the manager of housekeeping. Explain to him/her what happened, your room number, time you left, etc. and that you would like the shoes back.

Disney is a HUGE resort - something like 25K rooms - right? I don't know if each area has their own lost and found or they end up taking them over to a central location and tag them with date found and room number.

I know that wwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyy back when when I worked for Hertz, I managed the lost and found. The drivers would have bags with them and wait until the end of the day to turn stuff in. It was up to me to sort it out, tag it, etc. after 60 days we allowed the drivers to keep what they found. When people called for the items? IF it was in our lost and found? I shipped it out to them.

Any way - the point is - the drivers would wait until the end of their shift to turn stuff in. And if they have someone who manages the lost and found, it probably has to go through one other person to get to the main "keeper". Keep calling. Be patient!

Sometimes things are found and sometimes they are not.
Sometimes things left behind are just thrown away or maybe even stolen or put into Lost and Found but someone else claimed them and they are just GONE.
Once years ago, on a driving cross country trip, my sister forgot her swim suit and left it hanging in the shower when we left (she was about 10 at the time).
It was a tiny little motel out in the mid west but it had a swimming pool.
She was very upset when it was time to swim in the next hotel that was about 8 hrs away from the place we stayed the night before.
We stopped at a Kmart along the way and got her a new suit and my Mom called the motel we'd stayed in and they found the suit.
Long story short - they were very nice about mailing it to the family member we were visiting later in that week and we joined up with it when we got there a few days later.
My sister had a spare suit but it worked out alright in the end.
Call back and speak with housekeeping.
You might get lucky but there's a chance they won't turn up.
(I miss the days when I could get shoes for my son for under $50. These days his shoes easily cost at least $135 a pair but he has size 13 feet now and they are too big to lose/forget.)

You do realize that these resorts are large and they may not take inventory of the "Lost & Found" in rooms until the end of shifts. This is also the weekend so I would possibly wait until midmorning tomorrow and speak to the supervisor. What ever you do, please be polite to the staff, they are more apt to go out of their way for you when you do that.
If the shoes looked wornout or super dirty, there is a chance that the staff may have thought that they were meant to be tossed out and did so. So don't be shocked if they are not found. If you are looking to be reimbursed or compensated for the shoes, don't hold your breath.
Sorry it happened to you but hope you enjoyed your vacay.

My husband travels for business a LOT and he has often left something behind... such as a custom made dress shirt, computer charger, etc.

When he realizes it after he gets home, he just calls the hotel and asks to speak with housekeeping. Most of the time, they will ship it right to us, other times, we have paid a flat nominal fee for shipping. In any case, every time he has left something, it has been returned to us (if we realize it and ask).

I'm surprised that the shoes have not yet been turned in. I will say that in a couple of cases, we have made more than 1 phone call to locate something. He was at a big plastics event about a month ago and received this cook golf shirt that was made from recycled soda bottles and he realized when he got home that he left this shirt. It was important to him since we are in the plastics business and the hotel sent it to him right away.

I guess some places don't always honor that policy. I've never left something at Disney and we've been there multiple times. It is not cheap... we always stayed a the Polynesian. Our instances have always been business related.

Call again... make sure you speak to housekeeping and lost and found.

I don't know about disney, but we stayed in Orlando and forgot my husband's leather jacket. It was so warm we didn't realize it till we were back home, about 2 weeks later. I called the hotel we stayed at and they had it and sent it back to us by UPS.

I have worked in the hotel business for 15 years and I agree with everything Jodi said. Only the Housekeeping manager/supervisor has access to lost & found items. I would call back on Monday mid morning and ask for the Housekeeping manager. They can read the key cards to see who entered the room last and talk to that person. I bet they turn up, you just have to be patient. If they do not, talk to the GM and see if they can reimburse you for the shoes. Of course you will have to present them a receipt for proof of purchase either by fax or email. Good Luck, and I hope the shoes are found!

Well, house keeping may not do a good job, but it sounds like you all missed the mark when it came to checking. Glad you found them. And if I were the new guests, I'd be pretty skeeved out...
