I am moving to Baton Rouge in a couple of months and expecting my first child in August. Could anyone advise me as to which hospitals I should look into for registering? I am certain that I want to give birth in a hospital. I could also use suggestions about an OB for myself and a pediatrician for the baby. Help!

What can I do next?

Hi! My suggestions as you might guess is Women's Hospital. I had both of my daughters there and all my nieces were born there. My Ob/Gyn is Randall Brown and he is awesome. I have been a patient of his for 12 years now. My dautghters see Dr. Rodger Elofson at Associates in Pediatrics. That clinic has 4 doctors so you can always get an appointment.

I also would recommend Woman's Hospital. It's on the corner of Airline Hwy & Goodwood Blvd. My doctor's office is in the tower in the building next door. She's on the 6th floor (Suite 620), and her name is Dr. Lisa Gautreau. She's in a group called "The Women's Clinic" with 6 other doctors. Here is their website:

She delivered my daughter, and has performed a few in-office procedures on me. She's very friendly, and she's in her late 30's. My best friend also had her son (23 months old) delivered by her.

Hey E.,
As far as i know there are only two hospitals that do deliveries. They are Woman's Hospital and Baton Rouge General Hospital (Bluebonnet Rd. Campus). Woman's has been delivering for years and is callled "The Birth Place of Baton Rouge." While I have heard the General has nicer rooms... and that was several years ago when their rooms where new b/c they just started to offer delivery... anyway Woman's has been doing some renovations that really aren't necessary... b/c it is just a wonderful place. So if you can't tell I highly recommend Woman's Hospital. They are great, they were even featured on the discovery channel as they have the best Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the United States. And for that reason alone I chose to deliver there... just in case my baby needed extra care.. I knew she would be in the same hospital and with the best doctors in the country. And as for an OB ... my friends and I alll use various doctor's from the hospital. They are all in the tower attached to the hospital, and this is great to have as you get familiar with everything in one central location. Now peditricians are another story.. you will have to know where exactly you are going to be living as location helps.... and then your preference will matter. Some practices have sick/well rooms, some are open on saturday, some have all female doctors, etc.
Best of Luck and Congrats on the move here... it really is a wonderful place full of good people and great food.

Hi E.! Welcome to Baton Rouge. I am pregnant as well and this is my first. I would recommend Woman's Hospital as a place for delivery. They are wonderful, and come highly recommended. They also have one of the largest facilities in the south and one of the best I've seen and heard of in Louisiana. My OB is Dr. Sarah Davis, who is also apart of Woman's Hosptial. SHe is great and too the point. If you prefer a male doctor, there is one in her same office name Dr. Dickerson who I hear great things about too. I haven't decided on a pediatrician yet but I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Samantha Clark Gulino (partner is Ashli West). Website http://www.magnoliapediatrics.com. I will decide more when I find my daycare because I'd like the pedicatrian to be close to my daycare in case I need to get them there fast. I hope this helps! Congratulations and Good LUck! Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,
Jen Parfait

I highly recommend Womans Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. They are amazing there. I delivered both of my children and have had two surgeries at Womans Hospital. The staff is so sweet and very attentive. As far an OB doctor for yourself, I would recommend Dr. Gregory Heroman. He is a great doctor. He delivered both of my children and performed the two surgeries mentioned above. A great pediatrician is Dr. Elofson. He is great with my kids. Good luck in your search and congratulations on your new addition to your family:)and Welcome to Baton Rouge!

If you're going to give birth in a hospital, then Woman's is definitely the one you want to use.
My OB/GYN is Lisa Gautreau, and one of the things I like about her is that she listens to me regarding what is and isn't normal for my body, and doesn't try to talk me into procedures or meds that I don't want.
