Hospitals and OB/GYN Doctors near 60630 - Chicago,IL

I am new to the city and am wondering if anyone could tell me where I can locate a good hospital with a Maternity ward and a good dr affiliated with it to deliver with. I maybe expecting and am having trouble navigating finding not only a new ob/gyn but a hospital he/she holds standing with. Any advice will be useful. Thanks!

Thank you for all of the names and locations. We found out that I am in fact not pregnant which in a way is a blessing. Our time will come and now that I have the info that I have, I can choose a Dr. and be better prepared for things. Thank you again!!

Dr. Bujewski (Women First, Resurrection Hospital on Talcott) is very friendly and informative. His zen demeanor certainly helps me feel calm, safe, and well-cared for. He has been my regular ob/gyn since the spring of 2004.

I delivered my daughter at Resurrection and have no complaints. She had to be in their special care unit for a couple of days. All of the nurses in that area were kind and caring.

I use Dr. Julie Ericson of The Women's Group of Northwestern http://www.womenobgyn.net/index.php

Their offices are in the city on Michigan Ave and in Northbrook. It is a bit of a drive for me but I think she is worth it. Dr. Ericson really listens and spends time with her patients. I don't just feel like an anonymous pregnant lady getting pushed through the system. The personal touch and attention makes it worth the drive for me. She is affiliated with Prentice Hospital in the city. I have never delivered a baby there (my first was born in CO) but they get good reviews.

Good luck!

Welcome to Chicago! You will likely get lots of referrals for Prentice Hospital downtown, since they deliver over 12,000 babies per year there. Lots of people I know have good experiences there. However, having delivered both there and at The University of Illinois Medical Center (UIC) I have to say that I thought the care was much better at UIC. They don't have large screen televisions in the rooms like Prentice, but I really appreciated the individual care that I got, especially in the context of helping me have the birth experience that I wanted. They followed my birth plan TO THE LETTER with no questions asked. (For me, this included being able to catch my own baby). I felt well supported and did not feel like I was pushed to accept any unnecessary medical interventions (which frequently happens at Prentice - ask anyone).

If you are a normal healthy woman, I would highly suggest going through the Midwives group at UIC. Charity Cooper, Kathleen Harmon, and Lyn Schaye are the three that I like best. If you are high risk or become high risk, these midwives work with OB/GYNs as a back-up and will refer you or co-manage your care as necessary. There are many reasons to choose a midwife, and if you check one of my previous posts describes the differences between midwives and OB/GYNs, which I won't go into here.

Congratulations on your maybe pregnancy and best of luck.

I recommend the following hospital-based midwifery services...

West Suburban Midwife Associates, Inc.
http://www.westsubmidwives.com/

Advocate Illinois Masonic Alternative Birthing Center

I would also like to offer this suggestion...whatever practice you decide to consider, I suggest that you as them what their C-section rate is.

Best wishes,
J.

I live in 60630, Gladstone park/jefferson park chicago.

I went to Lutheran General hospital in park ridge and was ALWAYS extremely happy; it's one of the best hospitals in the country and my obgyn care and delivery were great. i went to Women's Health Specialists.

I live in the zip and used to go to Swedish Covenant OBs. After touring the hospital and finding out my OBs (who I had for years) C section rate, I changed hospitals/OBs to Evanston ENH (now called Northshore). I was very happy with my delivery experience and highly recommend the hospital. I wanted a natural childbirth and the nurses and doctors were very supportive and treated me, my husband and doula well. My daughter got stuck (she was facing the wrong way) for three hours before they started pushing the C-section route. My OB has moved to the West Coast, and I haven't been back in yet. I see the OB/GYNs in the Lincolnwood branch of NorthShore Healthcare.

Please take my Swedish remarks with a big grain of salt because one OB probably does not represent the whole lot. I might reconsider them with the midwives group and another hospital tour. (Their ER is nice).

I LOVE LOVE my doctor. I go to Dr. David Shaw and I live in 60630. Dr Shaw is out of Skokie and he is very personable. He personally calls all patients with all test results.
