Horse-related Toys

Kind of stupid question but...

My 4yr old daughter loves horses. I have been looking at some toys for Christmas. There are so many horse-related playsets. Wanted to see if any moms had kids that really love certain ones. There are several playmobil type ones, some lego, some character related (Dora), some random wooden sets. Any recommendations? Looking more for the playset type of toy. ,maybe with a barn.

What can I do next?

I have heard that Breyer horses are well made and were popular when I worked at the educational toy store years ago. We also have some of the Schleich animals and they have stood up very well with a 4 yr old boy playing with them (and his older sister). :)

Just like Jess E, we bought our daughter the Beyer horses and the wooden stable from Fleet Farm when she was about 4. And gosh did those horses mulitply quickly! I think we bought her 2 but by the time she was 8 she had over 50. Relatives would find them at yard sales, ebay, buy them for gifts, etc. We just donated the whole set a few months ago to Goodwill. Should have held onto them and offered them to you! Sorry!

One other toy we had that got lots of use was the pink Barbie horse carriage with the white horse. I think i found it at a yard sale for a buck. Lots of Barbies and stuffed animals got rides in that thing!

My daughter was very into horses. I didn't buy her a playset per se, but did her different Bryer horses and a wooden barn from Fleet Farm (I believe) that is one toy she is keeping to pass down to her kids. She also loved the truck with the horse trailer.

I just love the tall rocking horses that kids of yesteryear would ride. I think they are timeless.

I used to love the Breyer's horses when I was a kid. They were really high quality and fun to play with. We had accessories, too.

If you want a playset, Playmobil stuff is great! I'd go with that over Dora or a random wooden set.

Love the Melissa and Doug pasture pals and barn. We also got the horse trailer to go with. Well made and fun.

Breyer's are well worth the investment. You can also try this company: www.wildhorsefeathers.com. I've purchased different things from them with good results. Depending on how far you want to get into this, there are t-shirts or sweatshirts, bed linens, stuffed animals and more!

love me some horses...

We have a horse lover who is turning 5 this month. She never got a set but like other's experiences we have collected many horses over time - easy to do since it seems there is not a horse she doesn't like and we see them resale and cheap ones sometimes and then occasional Scheich or Safari Ltd is picked up on a shopping trip. Breyers we have gotten as special presents (but I will say for the price of them they really haven't seemed any more special to her than the ones that are less expensive). What I wish we would have done is invest in a large barn early on. We collected 2 medium ones that she loves which makes it more difficult since I am sure if we got her the large barn now that she would want to keep the 2 smaller ones, as well. She has had interest in animals since 1.5yrs old (though we didn't recognize how strong or long lasting it would be until she was a little older). She has a large dollhouse but I am sure that she would have used the large barn more if we had made that investment earlier. So, my vote would be a good barn and several horses - Melissa and Doug and Breyer. The Melissa and Doug ones aren't as much so she could have a bulk and the Breyer or Scheich ones for variety . Oh - I also believe playmobil would have been something my daughter would have really enjoyed but I don't think they have as much to build on and if her interest grows the playmobil style of animal is pretty exclusive. Good luck and thanks for posting - it was nice to read the other answers! :)

How about one of those things which is a horse head on a stick, that the kids put between their legs and pretend to ride.

I think they are fun.
