Hormone Changes and Discoloration

Hi Ladies,

I so loved the response to my first question that I would like to ask another one...I am 45 yrs old and just hating the hormone imbalance from many perspectives (I am pre-menapausal with issues of cloudiness of thought, mood swings and depression but no other symptoms as of yet). The one I am writing to you about today however, is the dirty looking discoloration on my face at the cheek and jawline from the change in hormones. No cosmetics seem to cover it, although, what I would prefer is to get rid of it. Does anyone know of ANYTHING that actually works to eliminate the discoloration?

Thank you all in advance!

K.

Hi K.,

Leslie F. mentioned the Even Complexion Essence with Lucentrix made by Mary Kay. That has worked for me as well. Best wishes!

There is a prescription cream called Tri-Luma and it works, however, you have be very diligent in using it with sunscreen and when the spots fade, you must wear sunscreen or they will come back! You can ask your Dr. about it. The condition is called Melasma and it is treatable.

Good luck!

Hi K.,

I represent a company, Sensaria Natural Bodycare, that has been around making great skincare since the 1970's. One of the best products is exactly for this kind of problem, Sea Silk Mask. The way it works is it gets down several layers, bringing up new cells to the surface faster which also means removing the top layers faster as well. Safe, natural, and the softness that your skin feels after the first use even is amazing. I call it my magic in a bottle.

You can email me or go to my website for more information and it is only $24 a bottle that will last for several months with a one-year guarantee.

Hi K.,

I've experienced what you have and had great resulting using microdermabrasion. I had a horrible large brown spot on my face and had great results from using this product.

I've also had customers get great results from Even Complexion Essence with a Lucentrix complex which is a concentrated serum clinically shown to work on all skin tones.
Even Complexion Essence actually helps to reduce visible dark spots and reverse skin discoloration to restore skin’s natural, even tone.

Let me know if I can help.

Hi K.,
I saw the response from Carole S. I am not a Mary Kay consultant, just a very satisfied client. The even complexion essensence works very well for me. It hasn't eliminated the discoloration, but has lightened it a lot. It does take a couple of weeks before you start to notice a difference, but it works. Meanwhile, to help cover the spots with makeup you need to use a concealer first, then your foundation will cover the spots better. ALSO -- sun exposure makes them darker, so limit being out in the sun, and when you do go out use a good sunscreen (Mary Kay also has a great facial sunscreen which doesn't feel as heavy or greasy as regular sunscreens). Good luck.

I had the same thing after a pregnancy & went to the dermotologist who gave me Retinol & a bleaching gel. It worked in less than a week.

Hi there,

If you are referring to melasma (which by how you describe I suspect that you are), you can try a product with Hydroquinone - you can find these products over the counter or from a dermatologist. They work pretty well - I have been using one (just an otc one) on the brown spots I got while prego this last time and after 3 weeks my spots have already faded a lot. Also you can get a prescription for retin a from a dr. which will fade the spots as well as reduce any fine lines. Most importantly tho, you need to keep sunscreen on your face b/c the sun makes the spots so much worse and you don't want to fade them only to have them return from being in the sun.

I also had this same issue. Murad Age/skin lightening Gel

Works wonders. One bottle has lasted longer than a year.
It is amazing. Stay out of the sun or use sunscreen. If you go to a dermatologist they can give you something stronger but I found this works wonders on my face.
It is worth the price.
Good Luck

How about balancing your hormones naturally? My doctor wanted to put me on prozac for post-partum. Balancing my hormones, the source of the issue worked for me.

Check out Dr. John Lee's website http://www.johnleemd.com/

Another Arbonne product I recommend for the discoloration is the RE9 Corrective Eye creme. Use it to “spot treat” the area because it contains kojic acid, which is a natural lightener.

Hi K.,
When nothing else works, ie. Tri-luma, Retin-A, 6%prescription strength hydroquinone, a series of spectra laser treatments will work for your melasma. The cost is about $200.00 per treatment and you may need between 5 and 10 treatments. The laser is similar to those used for tattoo removal. Results are permanent! I just completed a treatment of 5 and I am thrilled beyond my expectations. My treatment was performed by Erin Borcini, a physician's assistant at "Skin Perfect Medical Aesthetics" located on Greenleaf in Whittier. The number is (562) 464 - 5777.
Good Luck,
E.

Hi K.,
I noticed Leslie mentioned the product I was going to recommend. It is Even Complexion Essence by Mary Kay. I am a Mary Kay consultant and this is a great product for $35. I have one I could get to you and if you don't like it, I take it back. I had a customer w/ severe pigmentation. With one bottle, one whole side had cleared up and the other side had almost completely gone. I'm using it to clear up some dark spots (I think I got from the sun hitting my face there). A few weeks ago, a dark spot suddenly appeared on my jaw and in 1 week it was gone. From experience, it seems to work faster for newer, less developed spots, etc. It does even out skin tone to the way it originally looked. Microdermabrasion (MD) is also great. Another customer had spent $600 on microdermabrasion in salons and still had a huge spot. After a few weeks of using ours, I called her, and the spot was gone. Our MD is $55 and can be used 50 times. I used mine 71 times. You can see these items on my website at www.marykay.com/csenese or call me at ###-###-####. Hope you do! C.

Try Skinceuticals' Phyto+

www.skinceuticals.com

It won't erase, but it should lighten it up a lot. I'm using it now and I think it works.
